Editorial

Welcome to the January 2010 edition of Geomantica.

And hello to a new decade... It's looking to be a decade when environmental concerns will be taking precedence, at last. We owe our existence to this sacred planet Earth, so we need to clean up our act and say no to all sorts of pollution. The people will have to lead the way, politicians will follow!

Here in rural Victoria it's been the people of the land who've set the pace of sustainable change, starting back in the 1980's with the Landcare movement. Now sustainability is the buzz word! Solar panels are going up on rooftops like mushrooms everywhere! Geomantica has also gone for greater promotion of sustainable living and this year has to offer new natural building and garden design courses, to complement the geomantic training courses.

Fingers crossed that special guest teachers Jimmy and Miriam will be coming here in October 2010 to teach the art of building your own household wind charger, to generate enough electricity to get you off the grid! You can even used old car parts in this cheap and reliable do-it-yourself model. (We have one to power all our needs in Ireland and it's very good, quiet and hassle free.) Check the Events page on this site for updates. Better still - register your interest to undertake the 5 day course with Geomantica now.

Lots of extreme weather around the planet just now, as we swelter in a heatwave here in south eastern Australia. It's interesting that someone in the article on Radiation and Climate was predicting extreme cold, and now over in Europe they are having the coldest winter in over 40 years! Climate is a very complex creature. Makes sense to design your permaculture food gardens to withstand all extremes as a matter of course!

Backyard food production is really taking off these days and here at the Mucklestone Permaculture Farm we are trialling new water-smart garden strategies that can deliver masses of food without much water (just grey water is enough). The useful temperate dryland plants and especially the indigenous species, all planted during the long drought, are finally starting to stand tall and look good. So we are pleased to offer permaculture gardening courses here, when we'd love to show you around!

Thanks to all the contributors for this issue,

Happy times!

Until next issue,

Alanna Moore

Re: Alanna's 2008 book 'Water Spirits of the World'

Hi Alanna,

Read it, absolutely fascinating stuff, that all makes complete sense. Are you doing any workshops in Ireland
next year? Its the Holy Wells that I have a complete obsession about they are magical healing places, so what you have written about Mary and the blue and water really goes deep inside. My sense is that people who lived in Ireland long ago particularly around Croughan in Roscommon and Sligo really understood water and harnessed it in a creative and healthy way and had great respect for it. Most of this knowledge is lost, although people seem to be waking up or remembering the old ways.

Thanks for the great insights and connections.

Re: Environmental Gains with Forestry and Dowsing

David Kennet, from Western Australia, writes about his new website. David has been experimenting on his property with diverse plantings of trees, with their placement and companion plant selections determined by dowsing.

"Please take a look at the new web site at www.auria.net.au

At Auria the use of 'companion plants' appear to be improving the form, growth-rate and resistance to insect attack, of a diversity of trees (that have enormous commercial potential but are normally considered to be too slow-growing for forestry) - to an remarkable extent.

While academics say the research 'is not scientific' - there is indisputable evidence, to my way of thinking, (by way of comparison with controls that were planted without companion plants) that these benefits are genuinely being achieved - without resorting to watering, artificial fertilisers or chemical pest control.

As you will appreciate, the form of a tree is very important to improve the recovery rate of timber from it when harvested. If land adjacent to 'Auria' can be purchased - either by myself or or anyone else who is as dedicated to improving the environment as I am - the extent of the plantings can be extended with a view to making the project into a self-funding wildlife sanctuary in due course.

It is thanks to the considerable financial help and assistance over the years, from friends who have believed in what I am doing, that the research has advance to the stage it is now at. The Auria website has always attracted good traffic, but not the financial assistance hoped for. Now, with 'PayPal' added - and so easy to use, it is hoped that 'Auria' will attract financial help from individuals and businesses around the world, in order that the exciting environmental research work at 'Auria' can continue and expand. The intention in due course is to turn Auria into a wildlife sanctuary - but 600acres is not sufficient for that to happen - yet.

Hopefully visitors to the site, from all around the world, will want to learn more about the simple but effective techniques, that have been developed for growing trees in truly sustainable and environmentally friendly forestry projects, in regions where forestry has always been discounted out of hand.

The potential this research offers rural communities in arid and semi-arid regions of the world cannot be over-stated.

IF YOU ARE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE WORK AT AURIA - PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE AURIA WEB SITE.

Best wishes for 2010,

David Kennett.

Mission Statement:
The aim of 'Auria' it to encourage the provision of refuge for wildlife around the world. This will be achieved by teaching people innovative new forestry techniques for the establishment of truly sustainable forestry plantations, where man and beast can survive in harmony, in areas normally considered too challenging for such undertakings. This has the potential to benefit rural communities, wildlife and the environment, in every country of the world.

Visit the 'Auria' website now - and 'Sponsor a Tree', it is an ideal means by which individuals and businesses who do not have land, can 'do their bit' to help save the environment.

DiscoverVastu Shastra

the Indian art of harmony of place

Geomantica is proud to offer for the very first time, an introductory weekend course in the ancient art of Vastu Shastra, being taught in central Victoria in April 2010 by Anthony Ashworth.

Vastu or Vastu Shastra is the ancient poetic design system from India, originating over 20,000 years ago, it is the great forefather of Feng Shui. Vastu provides a complete design, energetic adjustment and placement system, working with both physical and subtle energies, whilst embracing the essential connection between the natural environment and Eco sustainability. Vastu helps nurture a deep and rich layer in the creation of a home.

Anthony will be sharing rare insights in this workshop, which aims to broaden understanding of the core needs of people with regard to their requirements around space, place and the built environment. It will also provide a poetic and flexible palette of tools to take an existing home or dream home design toward a more profound and beautiful expression. A home incorporating Vastu principles can really help support a spiritually and physically richer life.

The weekend workshop is very practical and participants will emerge with a solid general knowledge of Vastu and be able to apply its principles to their own environments.

Some of the areas covered during the weekend will include:
Application of the Vastu Purusha Mandala

Energetics and effects of the 5 directions
Understanding and balancing of the five elements

The heart of Vastu
Analysing shape, orientation and micro energetics of building sites

Vastu in the garden
Energetic placement and Geopathic Stress

Use of conducive and vital building and decorating materials and colours
Sacred dimensions and sacred geometry

Facilitator - Anthony Ashworth is considered to be the Southern Hemispheres foremost Vastu Shastra expert, he is an international speaker teacher and a building designer and Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui consultant. Radiation and Climate

The following article is excerpted from:
'Our Evolving Solar System: Plasma, Polar Reversals and 2012'
from the website Reality Sandwich.

Plasma bombardment

"The increasing amount of plasma that has been entering our solar system over the last couple of decades has been receiving a lot of attention in the run up to 2012. A Russian team of scientists, headed by the planet physicist Dr. Alexey Dmitriev, has been following this phenomenon. Their research suggests that this influx of plasma may be responsible for some of the recent dramatic climate changes. What's plasma? A plasma is a partially ionized gas and is sometimes called the fourth state of matter. The behavior of plasma is quite unlike those of solids, liquids, and gases. In nature, plasmas are usually found in gas-like clouds, as in the case of interstellar nebulae. Other examples of plasmas include ball lightning and the phenomenon of the aurora borealis.

A team from the Siberian Russian Academy of Sciences has been investigating changes in the heliosphere, the electromagnetic envelope that surrounds our solar system. The heliosphere acts like a giant protective sheath surrounding our sun and the entire solar system as we travel through space. Normally, it functions as a giant deflector, protecting us from a potentially harmful influx of cosmic radiation and keeping conditions within the inner solar system relatively stable. However, it is now being bombarded with so much radiation that an unprecedented amount is breaking through. This is reaching our sun and all of the planets of the solar system, including our own.

This increased influx of energy is the fundamental cause of the multiple magnetic and climatic changes that have recently been observed in the sun and across all of the planets. Dmitriev even goes as far as to say the consequence of the increase in this interstellar plasmic energy is far more important, in his opinion, than human greenhouse gas emissions are in the creation of our planet's current global warming crisis.

Changes to the Sun
There have also been some recent dramatic changes to the sun. The Ulysses spacecraft sent by NASA to measure the magnetic field of the sun found the magnetic fields of the poles enormously diminished. The magnetic poles of the sun usually reverse at the end of an eleven-year sunspot cycle. At the end of the most recent cycle, the poles only moved to the sun's equator and did not completely invert. This behavior alters everything that was previously believed about the sun's magnetic field. Effectively, the sun no longer has a single north or south magnetic pole; instead, it has four poles located in the equatorial regions.

The data gathered by the Ulysses spacecraft showed that the sun's magnetic field interacts with the rest of the solar system in a much more complex fashion than previously believed. NASA scientists determined that the polar magnetic field is much weaker than previously observed and the amount of cosmic dust entering the solar system is thirty times more than expected.

The Maunder Minimum
Sunspot activity has been broadly increasing since the Maunder minimum period from 1645 to 1715, when there were very few sunspots. At a typical peak of the sunspot cycle, there may be as many as 1,000 spots a year, but during the Maunder minimum the number of spots dropped as low as one or two a year for a thirty-year period. This was also the peak of what has been called the Little Ice Age. This was a period of approximately 400 years, from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries, when the drop in temperature was so great that the winter mortality rate in Europe increased dramatically. In London, the river Thames froze over completely every winter. The edge of the Atlantic ice pack moved southward during the Maunder minimum and glaciers started expanding.

A shutdown in solar activity and a decrease in the magnetic field of the sun leave our planet more open to the influx of plasmic energy from outside the solar system. This then leads to an increase in cloud cover and the kind of climate change we are now seeing. Henrik Svensmark, the head of Center for Sun-Climate Research at the Danish Space Research Institute, predicts we could be about to enter a new Maunder minimum-like period and that global temperatures are about to rapidly cool.

The Impact of Technological Civilization on the Biosphere

One of the most important and unpredictable variables in the process of rapid magnetic change that Dmitriev reports is the effect our industrial and technological civilization is having on our planet. The extent of human impact on the biosphere is now so great that we are impacting the electromagnetic skeleton of the planet. More than 30 percent of disturbances in the magnetosphere are now caused by electricity production, transmission, or consumption.

For example, the Van Allen radiation belts over the eastern United States have moved inward from more than 200 miles above the surface of the planet to slightly more than six miles. This is caused by the massive amount of energy being transmitted between the power stations around the Great Lakes to the eastern seaboard. The transmission route runs along one of Earth's magnetic meridians, and the frequency of electricity transmission in the United States is at 60Hz, which is resonant with the ionosphere.
What are the Van Allen radiation belts?

These are two belts of plasma surrounding Earth that are held in place by the planet's magnetic field. The inner belt extends 200-6,000 miles from Earth's surface and has a high concentration of protons. The outer belt extends 12,000-26,000 miles and is made of electrons.

This is just one of the many ways in which we are changing our electromagnetic environment, potentially with unforeseen consequences. This may well dramatically complicate the changes that already appear to be happening as a result of the extra-solar energy shift. Dmitriev regards these events as irreversible and fundamental. Possible outcomes, he predicts, may include a major reorganization of life on Earth. He concludes that the combination of the manmade technological impact on the planet and the increase of magnetic saturation coming into the solar system mean we are entering a period of rapid and unstoppable geophysical change.

Changes in the Magnetic Field Affecting Nature

Some species and habitats are more sensitive than others to the effects of these changes. Unfortunately, some of those animals and insects that may be most severely affected occupy key ecological niches in the world's ecosystem.

Bees

The rapid decline in bee population, known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), may be a symptom of the change in the earth's magnetic polarity. While some scientists believe that bees find their hives by following polarized lines of light in the sky, research at National Tsing Hua University of Taiwan into magnetic reception in bees has shown the presence of magnetite. This suggests they have magnetic homing senses.
Changes in Earth's magnetic field and the influence of manmade electromagnetic pollution are possible causes of the dramatic bee decline. A survey commissioned by the Apiary Inspectors of America found losses of more than 30 percent in the bee population from CCD. Some scientists estimate that life on Earth is so dependent on bee pollination that the current human population would be unable to feed itself just eight years after the collapse of the bee colonies.

Whales

Whales may also have a biomagnetic sense, which allows them to navigate by sensing Earth's magnetic fields. Whales following magnetic field lines could beach themselves in areas where the field lines intersect with the coast. A study in the United Kingdom by Margaret Klinowska found a correlation between local magnetic field lines and sites where whales were stranded on shore. The biomagnetic theory may also explain why there are multiple-species strandings. The use of underwater sonar has also been implicated in whale beachings.

Frogs

The weakened magnetosphere allows more ultraviolet light to penetrate through the atmosphere to the surface. Frogs and other moist-skinned amphibians are among the species most sensitive to these increases in ultraviolet radiation. There has been a recent sharp decline in frog and other amphibian populations in both tropical and temperate climates.

Humans

New Scientist magazine has reported research showing how human behavior is influenced by changes in Earth's magnetic field. Oleg Shumilov of the Institute of North Industrial Ecology Problems in Russia looked at activity in Earth's geomagnetic field from 1948 to 1997 and found that it grouped into three seasonal peaks every year: one from March to May, another in July, and the last in October. He also found that geomagnetism peaks matched up with peaks in the number of emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety, mood swings, and even suicides in the northern Russian city of Kirovsk.

Potential Electromagnetic Crisis

If the rapid increase in manmade electromagnetic emissions is left unchecked, it seems likely there will be an increase in consequences for human health and the health of the biosphere. The combination of a number of other geophysical effects may mean that this impact is compounded.

One possible scenario is that at the solar maximum, predicted to be around mid May 2013, a massive solar eruption could pass through the weakened magnetosphere of Earth. This could massively impact our global communications systems and computer networks and dramatically accelerate the changing motion of the magnetic poles. If the magnetic flux of the flare event is of sufficient magnitude to overwhelm the ring main of Earth's magnetic field, it could theoretically produce a rapid magnetic pole shift."

Sacred Sites under Threat in WA

Colleagues in Germany alerted Geomantica in November 2009 to sacred sites near Perth that are threatened by quarrying by Hanson (a German company).

"The Guardian Ancestral Owl Stone: BOYA GOGOMAT (registered site as of 8 Dec 2008 with the Department of indigenous Affairs) is endangered as the Hanson Quarry plans to expand to the North-West. Hanson daily work shakes the standing stone and the stone (actually - 3 balancing stones some 20m high) is at risk to fall over. The area of the Owl Stone is a taboo (winaitch) place. The Owl has the role in the Dreaming stories of the Nyungah people as the being that gave them the Law and Social order. It is attributed with the powers of life and death over people, along with Healing of Body and Spirit. The Nyungah Elders identify the Owl Stone as part of their own being. If the site is damaged health and wellbeing of the Elders would be affected. An Applications under the Aboriginal Heritage Act (1972) section 18 to destroy this Aboriginal Totem is pending, so a hard rock quarry (Hanson) can expand to consume the very stones of the site. Some of these stones are marked with Petro glyphic signs and figures and date back between 10,000 and 15,000 years.
Also under threat is Susannah Brook, another registered Sacred Site. The Susannah Brook Valley is part of the 54 Square Kilometre catchment area for the Susannah Brook. It has been measured as the most ecologically pristine tributary of the Swan Avon river system around 20 years ago and has been declining slowly since, mostly due to urban and industrial development."

Readers are encouraged to help stop this from occuring.

'BACK TO THE GIANTS:

The Hunter of Cerne Abbas
a geomantic essay'

by Bogdan Nowakowski

I. Introduction

The Giant of Cerne Abbas and a walled sanctuary upon the Hill, are supposed to have been constructed under
the period of 500 - 100 BCE. In Rodney Castleden`s book - "The Cerne Giant" (Dorset Publishing Co.,1996) he has supported that allegation with a broad review of cultural and historical background of those structures. Original name of Cerne Abbas was Cernel, mentioned in a document of King Egbert (830), granting lands to a religious community. Since XI c., pagan god, idol or image names like Helia, Hel, Heil, Hegle, Hele, Helis or Helith at Cerne - were quoted in some documents. Meaning of the Heli's name has been traced back to "The Hunter" in the old Welsh and Cornish. The old name of the village could have come from the "Cairn of Helis" or Hel, in short - Cernel. Before the Roman conquest, that territory belonged to a confederacy of Celtic Durotriges, containing three "hilltowns" - Cadbury, Hod Hill and Maiden Castle. Place-names derived from Hel or Helis were found to cluster within the territory of the latter.

The author maintains that the sanctuary of Cernel, which was located close to the hypothetical northern border of the Maiden-Castle territory and centrally in Dorset, - could have been established by that hilltown as a place of ritual meetings and reconciliations for the tribal confederacy. R. Castleden suggests that the lands around the Giant could have been withheld from the donations following the formal foundation of the Abbey, dated 987. In this way; local gentry, together with the population, could have had a chance of preserving the Giant intact over the centuries. It
should be scoured every seven years to avoid loosing its original outline through weathering and invasion of plants.

II. A geomantic path

Secrets of that enigmatic chalk figure were pondered over many centuries. Notwithstanding, I`m convinced that some new insights can yet be achieved, when looking at the Giant's roots within the "world of the beginnings". I've presented a Greek visual concept of the latter in my article - "Back to the Beginnings", in Geomantica Issue 43. Much more universal in use is the geomantic path which begins at the teachings of Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu. Their Taoist philosophy is full of empathy towards Nature but it does not stay with that. It penetrates into the uniting background, which underlies the plentitude of natural forms and transformations. When on that path, a panorama of the energies of the beginning, can be enjoyed. As with other kinds of penetrating the Unknown, the Taoist geomancy also has its risks. There's a well-known story of the painter Wu Tao-Tzu vanishing within the world hidden behind the surface of his huge nature-true painting. As you will see, I used to observe due restraint in my enterprises of that kind. Now; the Taoistic path is about a real-time direct receptivity of our own bodies. You can develop it in many ways.

Here's the one which suits dowsers, in my opinion, quite well. We shall watch over the movements of our focus of awareness and note down whereto it goes. Should it be stabilized around the crown, we would qualify the object, or a space we were just contemplating, as being yang (male). It is obvious in a case of a menhir, isn't it!? If it happened to have been drawn to the private parts and/or feet, or below our feet, then we would note the quality of an object or a space as being yin. As for the lower-tao, which is supposed to nourish all the beings in the world; it corresponds to a sense of a personal wholeness, in my experience. The abstract yin-yang patterns fit all world traditions well and are useful in looking within old records for some mythotopographical markers - the best starting points for geomancers, when assessing life-energy flows in a surrounding. If your mind is already trained to watch its own moves and you have achieved a sharpened self-awareness in your bodies, e.g. through a kundalini-yoga practice - then just skip these initial remarks. All you would need in such a case were only an intense exercise out in the field. A capability of efficient far-dowsing with net-photomaps is an important prerequisite.

III. Yin-yang interplay at the Giant's Hill

The walled enclosure upon the hill is named by the locals - "The Trendle", which means the "frying pan". That
endows the enclosure with the meaning of a female sexual organ. Thus the major yin-centre of this environment seems to be located up there, for all to see. It could seem obvious, in turn, that the yang-pole of that environment
should coincide with the Giant's manhood. Local custom of sleeping overnight over its tip, before a wedding or in
case of infertility, may corroborate such an opinion. It's even supported by the crossing of the three triple lines and
a single yang-line over there - see in the Scan No.1, below. With some caution, we can assume that the Giant's virility is satisfactory for an interaction with humankind, and maybe for some nymphs thereabouts. In my opinion, though,
it is the tip of the Giant's Club, actually, where the ultimate yang-centre is located. It is there, the broad multi-lined yang-paths coincide, coming down from around 27, 78, 165, 208, 300 and 345 degrees. The spacing of the club may indicate that the constructors of the Giant wanted him to be ready to send the whole yang-power concentrated in the tip of his club, towards an area located at SE, - in case of a need. Voids in the club-tip's "wind-rose" of the incoming yang-paths, are filled up with a broad path of lower-tao life-energy (green), enveloped into yin (yellow) and yang (blue). It is framing well the main part of the Giant's silhouette, along its axis of symmetry. It seems probable that the constructors could have been aware of that path and might have regarded it as important for the location of the Giant.

(Scan No.1)

Now it's a high time to agree upon, among us dowsers, how we could discern between yin and yang features,
out in the open. In my experience; when a dowser is not concentrated on looking for a specific object in the physical world, then a subconscious priority is given to signals arising, when a dowser is crossing yin-yang contact-interfaces. Those are signals, which are automatically interpreted as coming from a line. Now; what happens, if we've detected two thin lines, running closely parallel together!? Shall we just note their existence and then keep on walking!? OK. Let's assume, we are sure that those two thin contour lines are embracing a yang-path of a 2m width. Now let us go within the width of that path, towards its enigmatic destination. In my own early dowsing exercises, thin single lines seemed to hold their directions quite well. Paradoxically; some paths could start zig-zagging by 15-25 degrees after
a while or they could go round and back or run completely astray. I used to treat such surprises with due humility, not trying to lie to myself about my excellence in dowsing. Instead, I kept on with developing my skills and, at last, arrived at an insight that those irregularities were natural effects of an yin-yang interplay. Now then; to feel-in ourselves into the existence and effects of yin-features, we shall first return to the point, where we've lost our path. It could have been split into two streams, which formed a yang-ring, around a circular yin-area. Let's try to locate its circumference and check whether those two streams coalesce back into a single line, behind a yin-centre, or stay apart. That was rather easy. Out there, we can discover tougher cases. After interacting with many yin-centres, our path may lose its energy and it will just end in a small spiral. Some other time, we could lose it all of a sudden; altogether. When a yang-path runs against a higher-level transversing yin-zone, it can simply vanish for our senses and tools and regains detectability first after some 50 or 100 metres, on the other side of the yin-feature. In such a case, maybe only a far-dowsing in a photomap could help us to locate the missed section of our yang-path. After that discussion, the features shown in the Scan No.2 - below, perhaps shall be more comprehensible. I left to you to fill it up with colours everywhere, being afraid of the vanishing precedence of Wu Tao-tzu, the painter.

(Scan No.2)

In Scan No.2, at its east-side, there's an entanglement of lower-tao bags, created by nine productive yin-centres. I`ve found them when scanning the area at that scale. When looked at from a higher elevation, those separate yin-centres would coalesce into a kind of a summaric energy-form of the Goddess, ruling the Giant's Hill and the country around. Rules of additiveness should be taken into account, when choosing the scale of a photomap for far-dowsing. They should be discussed separately, on some specially chosen illustrative examples. Now; at south-east, there's an array of yin-centres, where the production of lower tao-energy already ceased and the lower-tao bags vanished. I've marked their cores black. Around the Giant, I've drawn out some fully-developed yin -"roses", which are productive. Smaller yin-centres of that kind are represented without their bags; for clarity's sake. From Scan No.2, it can be read easily what happens with the portions of yang-energy appropriated by the yin-centres from yang-paths, flowing in their neighbourhood. Those portions are being stored around yin-centres, in a series of concentric rings. Then; from the interplay of yin and yang, the lower-tao energy arises. It is stored within bags formed of a multilayered skin (yin-yang-yin). Those bags begin to swell and burst, ultimately, going over into channels (not shown), spreading the lower-tao energy around. Those channels can be easily dowsed as a multitude of thin "rays", around a sacred space. Maybe some other time we could study them and their dynamics in detail. Now; when looking from a hypothetical viewpoint of the Ancient Mind, the Giant would need a large supply of life-energy ("milk") for his sustenance. It's coming to him along that broad lower-tao path (A) - from above the Hill, where his Mother dwells. In his turn, the Giant can be seen as a giver of yang-energy ("seed") to the neighbouring yin-centres (nymphs) and so it's how the world of the beginnings goes round.

IV. Awareness of the life-energy field

In a way of example, let's try to look for survivals of such an awareness in the "Mabinogion". (Everyman; 1993) Within "The Tale about Pwyll Prince of Dyfed" ( p.13) - Rhiannon (old yin-energy; autumnal Crone) has a wondrous all-devouring bag. Pwyll (old yang-ring?) holds the bag open and servants (smaller yang-rings?) of Gwawl (The Light),
are pressing all prosperity of the land into the bag of Rhiannon. To accommodate all goods, Gwawl - the "rightful owner" of all this (sum of old yang-energy), is pressing the contents through jumping into the bag himself and then
is imprisoned therein. The beating of the Badger-in-the-Bag by Pwyll (new yang; it should be rather Pryderi!?) and
his collegues (other yang-lines), belonged originally, it seems, to a separate spring ritual. After that; the old "Light" (Gwawl) releases productivity potential of the land (new yin; the Bride) from the bag and then vanishes within the Otherworld. Now; ascribing yin or yang-quality to those acting persons may seem, at first sight, to be an abuse of a respectable old text. But it is only after adding that parallel yin/yang "soundtrack", that the Mabinogion patterns of action can reveal a potential of serving as markers of mythotopography at other places around. First after comparing that fragment to the geomantic situation of the Giant at Cerne Abbas (Scan No.2), we can form a hypothesis regarding the south-east area of the Hill, at which the Giant directs his club. From the perspective of the Mabinogion, it could seem that an equivalent of the Badger-in-the-Bag space can be located just there. I'm convinced that the old-tale personifications could have been used in an allegorical way to memorize patterns of life-energy flows. Sacred tales of transformation were handed down the generations, transposed and abridged, and then they could go as enigmatic intrusions into some late tales or legends. The story of "Manawyddan son of Llyr" - Third Branch of the Mabinogion, seem to have been preserved exceptionally well. In there; you could hunt for geomantic meaning with a hope of success. Well; those were tales of courtly bards, greatly formalized and preserved in writing early, under the Middle Ages. Folk-narratives recorded much later from story-tellers (folk-sensitives) all around the British Isles, form another starting platform, which can be used by dowsers. Rediscovering places in your environment, that those dust-covered mythotopographical reports belong to, could prevent losing them from common memory and use.

V. Conclusion

We've began with the chalk figure of the Giant at Cerne Abbas and ended at a verge of the Otherworld. Under this sharp walk, I was circumscribing problems, rather than proposing final solutions. The far-dowsing in photomaps that I've used here has brought some insights into the local world of the beginnings - a life-energy blueprint of the Giant's Hill at Cerne Abbas. Apart from that; I'm convinced that dowsers on the ground can discover many unknown sides of the Giant yet, other than those which my attention has been drawn to. I've specified some new approaches, which the dowsers interested in the well-being of their discipline could consider worth trying. Restoring the roots, which once connected dowsing to the ancient awareness of life-energy transformations in Nature, might be worth our efforts.

Energy Vortices

by Madis Senner, USA

One of the most influential unseen forces created by humankind are energy vortices, or vortexes. These swirling pools of energy can either lift you up, or damage you by draining your subtle body of its vitality causing innumerable ailments and illnesses. They are found in abundance around the world; unfortunately the debilitating negative energy vortices far out number positive natural vortices.

Once created, energy vortices can remain intact for centuries, or even eons. Learning to feel or to sense them, or being able read them with a dowsers L-rods is a key to anyone wishing to better understand our dynamic relationship with Mother Earth and work with earth phenomena.

Whirling pools of Energy
Energy vortices are whirling pools of energy. The spinning vortex creates a pull upon the immediate environment and influences the flow of prana by altering its straight line path. (To learn more about the flow of prana see: "The Circulation of Prana", http://www.jubileeinitiative.org/pranaflow.html.) Vortexes are a common feature of the unseen world and are found in Earth chakras and other apparatus in the ether around us. The energy vortices that I am talking about are not features of permanent structures in the unseen world, but form because of human interaction with Mother Earth and her Field. They are created and found in the plane of energy that fuels and powers the physical plane, what I call the Pranic Plane, what Sri Aurobindo calls the Vital Plane and what Theosophists refer to as the Etheric Plane.

The uplifting natural vortex has a clockwise spin (counter-clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere) and baths you in Mother Earth's life forces. The vortex taps into Mother Earth's field and draws prana from its immediate area towards its center. This increased draw of prana from the spinning vortex is fed into its center. Anyone situated in a natural vortex is bathed with this increased draw, or dose of prana. Natural vortices are great places for healing, connecting with spirit and invigorating oneself. They are a very positive feature.

Debilitating negative vortices spin in a counter-clockwise motion (clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere) and exert a pull upon the energy in your subtle body draining it of vitality. Basically they are mini-tornadoes that deplete you and rob you of energy. Whereas natural vortices feed you increased prana, negative energy vortices drain you of prana. They give me headaches. They can also create migraines, sleep disorders, anxiety and much worse if you linger in them for extended periods of time. Unfortunately, many people do linger in them unknowingly and consequently suffer because of it. I call them mini-tornadoes because they are destructive like tornadoes. I also think that they actually are a form of a tornado and are related to, or contribute to, the formation of larger negative vortexes such as tornadoes and hurricanes.

Geographic Samskaras
These energy vortices begin as thought forms. Each thought that we have creates a thought form that looks to manifest itself, attaches to the thinker and to where the thought occurred. I call the thoughts that attach to a place geographic samskara(s.) (Samskara is the Vedanta (Hindu) term to describe a thought that attaches to your subtle body, like a groove on a vinyl record, becoming a permanent record of your thoughts and actions. To learn more go to: "Geographic Samskara(s)"http://www.jubileeinitiative.org/samskaras.html.

Vedanta calls our thoughts vritti(s), literally translated as whirlpool. It is this circular whirlpool motion of the thought that plants itself on us and at the location where it occurred. Each thought is like a seed that tries to have us think or do the same thing over and over again. If we keep thinking or doing the same thing at the same place over time the seed thought, or samskara gets stronger. All the time the seed thought is looking to plant more seeds and encouraging us to think or repeat the same behavior. As it gets stronger the swirl of the whirlpool gets stronger as well. Eventually the swirl becomes so strong that it becomes a vortex and begins pulling in prana from its immediate environment.

Mother Earth Responds

A natural vortex is a positive uplifting vortex that has a clockwise spin to it. I call them natural vortexes because they form naturally through the joint effort of humankind and Mother Earth. They are Mother Earth's response to our overtures to heal, to give, to help or to aspire to the divine and spiritual though praying, meditating or ceremony. She is sending us the equivalent of a hug of increased energy.

The idea that Mother Earth responds to our intentions and actions has been observed by geomancers and dowsers. Sig Lonegren, geomancer and author of Spiritual Dowsing writes.

"There have been other dowsers who have also noticed the apparent ability of new labyrinths that were used regularly, to draw water to them - John Wayne Blassingame and Marty Cain, both good dowsers in the US - to mention two. Here at Benton, was the first time I had seen that energy leys were also drawn to the newly constructed space." "The Gathering Earth Energies: An Interim Report", Mid-Atlantic Geomancy; http://geomancy.org/e-zine/1996/winter/gathering-earth-energies/index.html

Conversely, the counterclockwise spin of negative energy vortices drain you of energy. They form where bad things such as violence, hate, thievery or negative thinking have occurred. They begin as a negative seed thought (negative geographic samskara) that seeks to encourage negative behavior and thinking. As they develop they begin to disrupt and eventually block the flow of prana creating dead spots in Mother Earth's Field. Over time, fed by negativity (thinking and actions) they become negative energy vortices that drain and rob you of vitality. Negative energy vortices are one of the biggest components of geopathic stress creating innumerable diseases from migraines to sleep disorders and worse with the long term exposure.

Intention determines
There are a host of pranas that can create a variety of vortexes. For natural or positive vortices, it is our intention that will determine the type of prana drawn to create the vortex. For example, healing work will attract Earth prana, (I call it Earth prana because it is the only prana recycled through the ether and the Earth) that has to do with the physical world, or in this case the physical body. Any location that has had hands on healing done there for an extended period of time will have drawn (created) a vortex of earth prana.

Meditation and prayer will attract the highest form of prana, what I call cosmic prana. Cosmic prana has the highest component of consciousness: Prana is made up of varying degrees of energy and consciousness and is delineated based upon it consciousness content; a higher consciousness component is associated with spiritual endeavors, a higher energy component is associated more with the physical world. A vortex of cosmic prana takes quite some time and spiritual acumen to create, consequently it is more enduring and resilient than other vortices made up of pranas that have a higher energy and lower a consciousness component.

Negative energy vortices generally begin as a vortex of Earth prana. As it gains strength it will begin to draw higher forms of prana that have a higher consciousness component. The stronger it gets the more resilient and enduring it becomes. A negative vortex that contains cosmic and all the other pranas is very pernicious and very difficult to clear. Such a negative energy vortex will have a much more debilitating affect upon Mother Earth's Field and the human subtle body than a vortex of earth prana.

While a vortex of a certain type of prana will draw that same type of prana, it will usually not impact the flow of other pranas. For example, a natural vortex of Earth prana will not affect the flow of cosmic prana and a natural vortex of cosmic prana will not affect the flow of Earth prana. This is generally not the case for mini tornadoes, or negative energy vortices.

Working with Natural Vortices
A great feature of natural vortices are that they give you an extra boost of prana and can facilitate a particular effort. For example, a vortex of cosmic prana is a great place to meditate and raise your consciousness because of the increased flow of cosmic prana. Vortexes of Earth prana are great places to go for healing because they will give you an increased dose of Earth prana which will facilitate healing.

Vortexes can also provide a gauge of the history of a particular location. For example, whenever I do a survey of a sacred site I am looking for vortices of cosmic prana because they would indicate that someone has done a lot of ceremony, praying or mediating in a particular area. Because they take long to form they take along time to dissipate and can remain at a sacred site for centuries, or even millennia if left undisturbed. In other words, barring other features of Mother Earth, if there are no cosmic prana vortices at a location you can assume that it was not a sacred site previously and may only be a pile of stones, or performed some other function.

A Whirlwind

Energy vortexes are one of the most common features found in our environment. This is because they are one of Mother Earth's first responses to our interaction with her. Natural vortices mark an acceleration of that union that can hasten and enhance our spiritual development. Negative energy vortices are places where we, humankind, have sullied and damaged Mother Earth's subtle body.

It is important to understand how our thoughts and actions affect Mother Earth if we are going to heal her. Negative energy vortices need to be avoided and cleared in order to return Mother Earth's subtle body back to its proper functioning. A natural vortex is something that humankind needs to build upon if we are going to transcend the physical world. They are the first step in what can be a beautiful union.

The Energetic Charge of the Human Body

by Miroslav Provod

New knowledge about the properties of static electricity that make it clear why megalithic structures were built also offer the explanation of other not yet known phenomena. The construction of megaliths for curative reasons is only a primary piece of knowledge. There are many hints that show us that people of those times new some way of increasing or decreasing the charge (energetic value) of the human body. The current science presents that the charge on cellular membranes of a human body has a value between 30 and 80mV and that the capacity of the cellular membranes is 1µF*cm-2. Our medicine is not interested in manipulation with the values of the charge.

There are more hints in history that show us how the charge of a human body could be altered. Other than energetically adjusted rocks these were also water springs that emerged from the ground. People have not missed that water emerging from springs has curative effects. Such a place was usually an incentive to establish a pilgrimage place and a construction of a sacral building. This building accumulated the static electricity of the water stream in its matter and people gained the energy from it in a similar way, as with menhirs. In the same way - at Lourdes the pilgrim was cured at times. But a great majority registered a decrease in tiredness, better mood, etc.

However, the energetic curative effect of water is not permanent. If the water is not consumed at regular intervals its charge slowly disappears by transformation into smaller charges. The water keeps only the minerals in the same way as all natural waters that could be bought in a shop do. However, the energetic value (charge) could easily be returned to the water by shaking or by a contact with greater charges. But the curative effect cannot be quantified. It is probable that different people have different energetic values (charges) on their membranes and also need different minerals. Therefore, every individual probably needs different amount of static electricity in combination with various minerals.

The energetic and chemical interaction cannot be explained yet as well as the optimal value of charge of a human body. We are located in an energetic raster of various charges that always energetically affect us. However, we can get closer to the basic information by experimentally obtaining a great amount of statistical data.

We do not have to wait for a construction of a measuring device in order to manipulate with the charge of a human body. The constructors of megaliths also certainly used much simpler instruments, so we will go in their steps and perform the identification by the use of a dowsing rod. The dowsing rod reacts to the same charge polarity with the long known repulsive force. The answer why it does not react in hands of every individual could be found in the not yet explained property of static electricity the polarity of charges. It was the dowsing rod that made it possible to explore the mystery of megaliths and find the not yet known properties of static electricity. I do not doubt that the dowsing rod could be used in the first steps in the research of the charge on cellular membranes. This however requires obtaining statistical data from a great amount of experiments with the help of those that are interested in this problematic. I recommend to everyone who would be interested in such a collective experiment to first familiarize with the articles "Dowsing versus aura" and "Diagrams" at http://www.miroslavprovod.com/ where I describe the technological procedure when identifying the charges.

The size of aura that copies human body is much easier to identify if the shape of the body is similar to that of a sphere. This could be achieved by sitting on a step and placing head on the knees. We can identify the radius with a dowsing rod and then calculate the volume of that sphere. However, we cannot ask people to sit on a step on some occasions e.g. when leaving a stadium. I have solved this problem by identifying the size of aura at the chest and then assuming that it is the same fraction of the total aura in all instances. This is reasonable for statistics and evaluation.

The size of aura is proportional to the charge on human cells and its easy identification makes it possible to control the energetic value of our body at all times. Therefore, I would recommend obtaining such statistical information in all situations. It can be found whether the bed we sleep on is in a harmful strong zone or not by identifying the size of our aura before we go to sleep and after we wake up. In this case, the size of the aura could greatly be influenced by a metal bed. It would also be interesting to identify the aura of passengers in various vehicles before and after the ride (or flight) as well as before and after visiting a place where many people meet together. Everyone would be surprised what alcohol does with the energetic of a human body even a long time after its consumption. It will not be less interesting to observe the aura on people that are addictive to nicotine, alcohol, drugs, by gamblers, homeless people, people affected by some long term illness (I have an information from a cancerologist that his most severely affected patients have aura of 15cm radius), etc. The information obtained could also be specified by including the information about sex (man or woman) and the age.
It will not be easy to approach the knowledge of ancient cultures about which we have had a wrong view. However, we can expect surprising results from further research.

'Keeping the Wanjinas Fresh'

By Valda Blundell and Donny Woolagoodja

(and other members of the Mowanjum community), Fremantle Press, 2005.

Reviewed by Alanna Moore

Wanjinas are the regionally important water spirits of the north-west Kimberely in Western Australia. One might call them 'level 3' nature spirits, ie - the most highly evolved of all in an area. They are depicted in ancient rock paintings as having distinctive 'headresses', sometimes with radiating lines to represent bolts of lightning. Wanjina headresses with radiating lines ending in knobs are representative of ocean whirlpools and thus depict coastal Wanjinas.

Reading about the Wandjinas from the perspective of the indigenous people who maintain their ancient heritage to this day is refreshingly genuine. A long way from the speculations of Eric von Daneikin who, back sometime in the '60's, suggested that the Wanjinas could only have originated from outer space.

On the contrary, Wanjinas have very down-to-Earth roles to play is assisting the fertility of the landscape. Dry seasons can be fiercely dry in these parts, followed by monsoonal downpours in the summer. Wanjinas are never shown with a mouth (except in some very dry regions), otherwise flooding would be a possibility. (A flood is the typical punishment for breaking the laws set down by the Wanjinas in the Lalai /'Dreamtime').

Wanjinas have both animal and ancestral human lineage, and they have animals that act as helpers and as their representatives. When people have close ('totemic') associations with the Wanjinas, the clan can benefit from the bestowal of creative impulses. Donny's father Sam was given a whole joonba (corroboree). He explained (on page 106) that:

"The Wandjinas came to him in a dream and they gave him all these songs. When he came to Mowanjum he didn't always have time to go out to his country, so the Wandjinas followed him here and they told him these songs."

For Donny's clan group the most important Wanjina is Namarali "the boss ... he gave us the law for Worrorra people". Namarali established the protocols of intergroup trading and the sharing of food and caring for one another in the clan. His animals include the emu, kangaroo, pelican and barramundi fish. These animals participated in the Lalai creation period and thus are afforded great respect to this day. Special rituals must often be enacted before eating them, some must not be harmed at all (such as the owl).

The world sees a Wanjina

The famous rock art Wanjinas had not retouched for a long time. The culture seemed to be fading But then some 3 billion people watched the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, with its indigenous themes and a giant fabric figure of Namarali, painted by Donny, that rose up high on the stage. Donny watched the culmination of it's 2 years in the making and was overwhelmed with emotion at the sight. He felt pride for his Worrorra culture and his strong personal connection was piqued - as Namarali is not only the most important Wanjina ancestor for the Worrorra, but also Namarali's burial place is the sacred site from where the child spirit of Donny's maternal grandfather came from, and thus Namarali's spirit is one with his grandfather's spirit. At that exalted moment, during the opening ceremony, Donny resolved to make the long journey to the old sacred site to repaint Namarali's fading figure.

In Mowanjum, where no-one had been expecting the Olympic Wanjina, there was a wonderful surprise for everyone and subsequent renewed flowering of Worrorra culture, with many artists now painting Wanjinas and their animal helpers. Donny went on to repaint a great many of the original rock art Wanjinas. He traveled all over the Kimbereleys to do this, as, in many cases, the owners of those paintings, the descendents of the local Wanjinas, were all gone and this responsibility was entrusted to him from the relevant elders.

With 32 full colour plates of artists from Mowanjum, this book brings to life indigenous Kimberley culture through the stories of several individuals and their families, in their 'Enduring Power of the Lalai' world, an ancient and "unbroken living cosmology", in the deep spiritual reality of their sacred land.

'Angelology

a Guide to the Angelic Realms, Devic and Nature Spirit Realms'

By Junitta Vallak, 2009, Victoria.

Reviewed by Alanna Moore

I am always keen to read a book about the spirit kingdoms, especially one that has been produced in Australia, but I found this to be mostly a reiteration of well known examples from northern hemisphere literature. Junitta has painted a wide canvas, but even then other unrelated subjects are dropped into the mix, so that things like the vesica pisces and crop circles crop up in there too. Some interesting material, however.

There are a great many illustrations and Junitta has some of her gorgeous angel paintings in there also. I did rejoice to read of her personal observations of angelic goings on at 'Casurina', in central Victoria, where she used to live. She tells of the observations of visiting clairvoyants who described the evolving characteristics and colours of Casurina's devas, especially those who responded to the spiritual work that was being conducted there (growing bigger and more colourful). (As I have observed this also happening to the devic life on my own farm, I can relate to this chapter very much.) Descriptions of the devas of Melbourne and Canberra are also a welcome antidote to the angelic hierarchies of biblical (and older) origins.

I wonder if any one book could possibly do justice to the mysterious and magnificent realm of spirit?

Good on Junitta Vallak for having a go!
