EDITORIAL

Welcome to the summer solstice 2002 edition of Geomantica.

In this edition you can read about nature spirits in Ireland and New Zealand, get an overview about esoteric agriculture, and discover a wide range of esoteric subjects that the mainstream media has been covering lately.

Here in central Victoria, after a week of heatwave conditions and extremely high evaporation levels, the drought, in its sixth year, is intensifying. In my garden native birds are reliant on the water bowls put out for them. Creeks and dams are mostly dry and deeply cracked, local springs never known to dry up have done just that. Mother Earth is in a high fever, and 2002 was the hottest year recorded, I believe.

In my travels over the last few years I have seen the drought ravaging a great portion of Australia . Why has it taken so long for the mass media and government to 'discover' it? Why do water restrictions come so late?.. ...How can this country support a higher population without water security first resolved?

In this issue there are snippets on esoteric methods to make it rain. Towers of Power are reputed to bring on rain and I have known of rain falling subsequent to erecting them, but it cannot be guaranteed. Anyone got any cloud busters out there?...

Thanks go out to all contributors to this issue.

Have a great summer and new year.

And may blessed rain fall gently on this land,

and soak deeply into the Earth's inner waterways.

Until next quarter

New Zealand

River Monster stops Roadworks
and other Kiwi Snippe
ts

The presence of a legendary being, known to the Maori people as the
Taniwha (pronounced tan-i-fwa), has interrupted road works on a
dangerous section of New Zealand's Highway One.

The story has bounced around the world since it broke in early November
2002. "Maori swamp creature delays road" was the splash on the BBC's
website. The Taniwha is traditionally a scary being much of the time and
it is said to be responsible for many road deaths at the site in question;
but sometimes it's recognised as a landscape guardian and tribal protector.

Meetings were urgently held between the local Maori tribe and Transit New
Zealand, who were told that it is believed by Maori that these beings exist all
along the rivers, particularly at the bends.

Maori cabinet minister John Tamihere agrees, stating that all Maori children
are warned not to swim on river bends because of the threat of the Taniwha,
who is considered responsible for drownings. It's like the bogeyman or
bunyip, others suggest.

So what does the local tribe (Ngati Naho) want?
"We need recognition that they do exist. We already know that in the Maori
sense. They should be identified and be respected for what they are" said
tribal spokesman Remi Herbert. "We are working with TNZ to see how
we can accommodate those Taniwha there. Maybe the road needs to divert a
little bit. It's up to the kaumatua (elders) to make that call We are not
looking for compensation. We're looking to make sure our spiritual needs
and our mana are intact. We're confident we'll come to an amicable solution."

(Source: New Zealand Herald 9/11/02)

Reactions to the story were very negative. Your editor got sick of reading letters to the Herald editor about 'mythological claptrap' and sent her own in,
although it was, predictably, not published.

"The Taniwha is a living and detectable energetic force in the landscape"
her letter stated "Just as the Australian Aboriginal 'dreamtime', actually an other-dimensional reality, enjoys respect, so the Taniwha should have the right to exist, rather than being treated as if it were some kind of collecti hallucination".

Your editor will be writing up her adventures with the Taniwha for a
forthcoming book on Australasian geomancy and is returning to New Zealand in March to dowse more Taniwhas and other devas.

Issues around protecting sacred landscapes were subjects being hotly debated
in November when your editor was in New Zealand. A Local Government Bill was being discussed in parliament and is expected to be passed by Christmas. It would require councils to 'recognise and respect the principles of
the Treaty of Waitangi' including seeking Maori input in significant decisions
on land and water use, especially in relation to their ancestral lands and sites,
waahi tapu (sacred sites), valued flora and fauna and other taonga (treasures).
(Source: NZ Herald 19/11/02)

The so-called Fleet Maori have occupied this country for only some 800 years, says standard history books. An alternative view is that they didn't come upon an empty land, but in fact overrran an earlier, peaceful, fairer skinned Polynesian(?) race - the Waitaha Nation, the subject of articles and books by Kiwi geomancer/authors Gary Cook, Barry Brailsford and others.

These two gentlemen, plus Englishman Hamish Miller will be conducting an
'Earth Wisdom Summit' in Auckland March 22nd and Christchurch on March 15th 2003. If you are into Earth Mysteries, ancient astronomical wisdom, ley lines sacred sites, and the like this is the summit New Zealand has been waiting for. See you there!

More on the Hindmarsh Island

Bridge Debacle

From: "Roma Mitchell Community Legal Centre Inc.
rmclc@ozemail.com.au>

Subject: Immediate apology owed to Ngarrindjeri by
Howard Government & Kim Beazley

Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002

Now that Tom and Wendy Chapman have withdrawn any
appeal over the 2001 Federal Court decision to deny their claim for
$25M compensation, in which Justice Von Doussa rejected
the assertion of the SA Hindmarsh Island Bridge Royal Commission
that the Ngarrindjeri fabricated their cultural and
spiritual beliefs, it is more than timely for the Australian Government to
recognise that an immediate, unconditional, full and sincere APOLOGY
(in terms equal to the terms of the recent apology that the
Ngarrindjeri received from the Alexandrina Council), is justifiably owed
to all the Ngarrindjeri people from the forums of the National
Parliament through the Commonwealth House of Representatives
and the Senate (and especially by the Prime Minister, Mr John
Howard MP, and the former Labor Opposition Leader, Mr Kim Beazley MP),
whose special law-making for the Chapmans to limit Aboriginal
Heritage greatly injured the Ngarrindjeri.

Tom and Wendy Chapman have discontinued any further
appeal against the August 2001 Federal Court decision of Justice
Von Doussa throwing out their claim for $25M compensation
because there was no evidence to show the Ngarrindjeri women fabricated
their opposition to the Hindmarsh Island Bridge.

It's time that there was an unconditional apology
made to the Ngarrindjeri people by the Australian and South
Australian Governments on behalf of the Australian people and
the Crown over the treatment given to the Ngarrindjeri people by
the 1995 Royal Commission (for its concoction of the defamation
that the Ngarrindjeri people fabricated their spiritual
beliefs and culture to assist "Greenies" with their opposition to the
building of the Hindmarsh Island bridge), and the subsequent use of
this unsound and false Royal Commission finding by the Commonwealth
Parliament to the injury of the Ngarrindjeri.

Such an apology was absolutely justified by the decision of Justice
Von Doussa of the Federal Court in August 2001
dismissing the Chapman's claim that the Ngarrindjeri women
fabricated their culture. The Australian Senate under its then
President Margaret Reid congratulated the Ngarrindjeri in 2001 on
being vindicated by Justice Von Doussa; and, twelve months later the
Alexandrina Council has apologised to the Ngarrindjeri for colonisation
and its harmful impact on them. Why shouldn't the rest of Australia
(including all those in the media and the press who joined in the
xenophobic vilification), too ?

Where is the apology of the Australian and South
Australian Governments on behalf of the Australian (and
especially the South Australian) people, of the Australian and South
Australian media and press, and of the Crown (which appointed the Royal
Commission and assented to the special Commonwealth law whose
enactment was racially discriminatory), given: (i) Justice Von
Doussa (Federal Court) dismissed in August 2001 any claim that the
Ngarrindjeri fabricated their culture; (ii) the Senate
(President Margaret Reid) congratulated the Ngarrindjeri in 2001 on being
vindicated by Justice Von Doussa; (iii) and some twelve (12)
months later the Alexandrina Council has made a formal apology to
the Ngarrindjeri for colonisation and all its harmful impact on them ?

The Ngarrindjeri Candle Light Walk (CLW) will be
held monthly throughout 2003, except possibly for February, and
commencing in 2003 on 26 January 2003.

The 33rd CLW will be on Friday 6 December. Most importantly the 45th
CLW could be held on December 28 (SA Proclamation Day) 2003. The
culturally renown and heritage rich local Ngarrindjeri people, who
are the largest Indigenous cultural community
within the close settled areas South of Adelaide, are continuing
this endeavour (amongst many others) to gain some autonomy over
their nation's lands and waters. Ngarrindjeri People have signed a
Pact with the Alexandrina Council to ensure council policy gives
legal Protection for their Aboriginal Cultural Traditions, and may
wish to have such a pact with all South Australians, were it to be
offered to them by the Government on behalf of the people. The
Ngarrindjeri Tendi is an proper body to sign a Ngarrindjeri-South Australia
Pact to ensure legal Protection for Aboriginal CulturalTraditions.

The Ngarrindjeri people first sent three (3)Ambassadors to South
Australia's Governor seeking justice from South Australia nearly
eighty (80) years ago.

On 23rd December 1923 there was a first visit to Government House
corner by (3) three Ngarrindjeri men from the Raukkan (Pt McLeay)
Mission to present a petition to the Governor for address by
Executive Council on the still much vexed issue of the future of the
Ngarrindjeri youth. There is a good article in the Adelaide Register
of 23/12/23 about this history. Ngarrindjeri Elders have taken all
available steps in the last 10 years through the meagre means of the
Tendi - their governance body, to ask South Australia to recognise
and respect their cultural heritage. They are still fighting to
protect their cultural spirituality and belief system at
Goolwa/Hindmarsh island (Kumarangk); to end desecration of their
ancestors burial grounds, and for a State apology.

For thirty two monthly Candle Light Walks around
Government House, from 26 January 2000, Ngarrindjeri people have
continued asking the Governor for justice from South Australia. They are
still pursuing government over the findings of Federal Court
Justice Von Doussa. The Ngarrindjeri Heritage and Native Title
Committees, with the full confidence of the Ngarrindjeri people through the
Tendi, are asking all South Australians to recognise and respect
Ngarrindjeri heritage. The Ngarrindjeri Tendi undertook
sensitive negotiations with the Alexandrina Council and obtained local
recognition of the Ngarrindjeri people as the Traditional Owners
within its local government area. The Ngarrindjeri Heritage and
Native Title Committees may now work closely with Alexandrina
Council to properly address unresolved heritage issues under
Ngarrindjeri law, because a pact was signed allowing work to continue on the
Goolwa Wharf project.

The Alexandrina Council commenced the Goolwa Wharf Development
without the prior establishment of agreed heritage conditions, or by
a Native Title Memorandum of Understanding, over the express
objections of the Ngarrindjeri community. The Ngarrindjeri Elders
were disgusted that standards applicable to burial grounds in the
metropolitan area were ignored at the Goolwa Wharf precinct. So they
sought a Council policy acknowledging their cultural traditions.

An honest and genuine commitment by South Australia to truth and
justice in reconciliation would require equal official steps to see
that the South Australian Government recognise the justice in
Ngarrindjeri People being accepted as a respected participant under
the State Constitution. Their rightful input to initial discussions
about the scope of constitutional change is necessary to any
proposal to update the State Constitution in a just and equitable
manner. South Australians should also consider the implications of
negotiating a Ngarrindjeri Pact between South Australia and the
Ngarrindjeri People, to that end, with the eventual provision of a
Ngarrindjeri Act which may be negotiated for recognition in the
Constitution.

The Ngarrindjeri People ought be assured that State Constitutional
changes will be just and based on an equal input from the
Ngarrindjeri people to show a basic respect for their legal and
equitable rights as the traditional owners of the Ngarrindjeri
Nation's Lands and Waters. Culturally appropriate steps need to be
taken by South Australia, through the Governor and
the SA Government to include the Ngarrindjeri people in the
proposals, and allow their voices to be heard in the Constitutional
Conventionassembly.

In view of their eighty years of struggle to get Vice-regal
recognition is fitting that the 45th CLW be held on Proclamation Day
2003, and at which there should be an official SA recognition of the
Ngarrindjeri Flag by the Governor for the people of South Australia.

Therefore, it is essential to get in place the lead-up organisation
and support for such a step as soon as possible. All interested
people, South Australians and others around the world, may help to
get the ball rolling on this by starting some initial discussions
with Ngarrindjeri CLW organisers to facilitate their wishes as to
how the walks may continue to such a successful outcome for SA.

JUSTICE & PEACE CANDLIGHT WALK: "Australians can
show their support for a treaty with Australia's Indigenous peoples.
Candles will be lit for justice and peace advocating an Indigenous
treaty on Friday 6 December, and then on SUNDAY 26 January, 2003,
and every following first Friday of the month throughout 2003. Walkers
can gather with candles at Government House from 7.15.PM for a
7.45PM start. The walk aims to protect Ngarrindjeri culture,
spiritual beliefs, lands and waters, to stop any nuclear waste dump on
traditional lands, and from affecting the environment via a Treaty & Bill
of Rights."

Candle Light Walks are held in Adelaide at Genocide
Corner in front of Government House on the first Friday of the
month. These walks express the concern of those who wish justice for
Indigenous peoples. There's an opportunity to listen to
Ngarrindjeri, and other Indigenous Elders speak on issues affecting their
people.

The microphone remains open for anyone to offer their thoughts on
current issues, to sing a song, or to share stories
of struggle. Please feel free to attend, and show support for a
Treaty with Indigenous people, a Bill of Rights, justice and
peace, as well as opposition to any nuclear dump in South Australia.

Another monthly Candle Light Walk is to begin in
Sydney, and soon Candle Light Walks in other States may follow.
Don't worry if it will just be a small group of you to start with....
as Vincent Lingiari said: "from little things big things grow"!
Respect Indigenous people's traditional land and waters.
Light a candle and walk for justice and peace.
Join the Indigenous call for a TREATY.

Respect Indigenous rights. Recognise Ngarrindjeri
culture and spiritual beliefs. Look after the Coorong and its
wildlife. Protect this unique Australian wetland.
Look after Lake Eyre. Conserve this unique cultural environment.
Protect its cattle and tourist industries.

NO SOUTH AUSTRALIAN NUCLEAR WASTE DUMP!

Changes in Soil & Plants in Crop Circles

With the release of the box office hit Hollywood movie 'Signs' and in the light of current high level scientific investigation - crop circles are appearing in
mainstream media. Recently the Weekend Australian magazine ran its own story, which is summarised as follows.

There have been 10,000 crop circles reported around the world to date.

Recently some interesting scientific studies have been done on soil and plant
samples taken from within crop circle areas. The BLT Research Team Inc. is an organisation that has been formed to investigate physical changes in plants at crop circles.

Diane Conrad, a geologist analysing surface soil samples from a crop circle that appeared near her home in Utah found that they had a characteristic generally only found in sedimentary rock that had been subjected to pressure and heat over long periods.

Another researcher, Dr Sampath Iyengar a Californian mineralogist, discovered that clay minerals in samples also showed a very orderly pattern, that is increased crystallinity. No-one had ever seen anything like it in soil. This
phenomena is usually observed in geologic sediments exposed to low
temperatures and pressures over millions of years.

In a laboratory soil would have to have been exposed to temperatures of
500 to 800 degrees celsius to achieve such a crystal growth effect. Iyengar
could offer no explanation but stated that "It's some kind of energy, an
unknown force that's causing this."

Others have checked this and found the same effects. An intrigued Dr Robert
C Reynolds Jnr, a renowned mineralogist of Dartmouth College, stated that
"I believe that our present knowledge provides no explanation." This is the
first time that a scientist of his standing has taken an interest in crop circles.

W C Levengood, a Michigan biophysicist, began investigating plants from crop
circles in 1990. He studied the pin head sized holes appearing in plant nodes
subsequent to crop circle formation, calling them 'explosion cavities'. His
explanation for these phenomena is that moisture in the plants stem has been
heated rapidly, turning to steam and then either stretching the plant fibre or
blowing a hole in the stem.

"It seems to be a powerful microwave energy that is causing this, it heats
from the inside out. The interesting thing is that these holes occur in micro
seconds." Such effects have never been seen in control plants taken from
outside crop circles.

Levengood also noticed changes to seeds and germination capacity of plants
in crop circles. Seeds germinated up to 5 times faster than controls if the
crop circle occurred when seeds were fully formed. The seedlings are able
to tolerate lack of water and light for a considerable time without apparent
harm. In 1998 Levengood patented a method to emulate the effects, with a
process he calls 'molecular impulse response'. The seeds will be ready
next year.

Problems from Schumann Resonance

New Zealand physicist Dr Neil Cherry has investigated the health impacts
of naturally occurring fields from solar and geomagnetic activity. He provides
evidence that these fields contribute to altered blood pressure and melatonin,
increased cancer, reproductive, cardiac and neurological disease, and death.

Dr Cherry argues that these effects can be explained by Schumann Resonance, which affects circadian cycles.

All Hail the Naked Dancing Rain Women!

A plan for 200 women of the drought stricken Mallee to dance naked to bring on rain has whipped up a media frenzy.

Organiser Lyn Healey heard about women in Nepal who had danced naked, and subsequently a drought was broken there. Even the American press wanted to know about the Mallee plan.

Lyn said it hadn't been planned as an attention grabbing stunt, but she was simply trying to make it rain and to lift the spirits of the people in the area. The dance will be held at a secret location on March 2nd , concurrent with a free community fun day elsewhere aiming to relieve some of the stress the farmers are going through.

Organics A Growth Industry

The Australian Weekend Careers section was fronted with a story on the organic food industry, mentioning the newly created degree in ecological agriculture being offered through the Orange (NSW) campus of the University of Sydney. Subjects include organic and biodynamic agriculture and permaculture, as well as more conventional units.

Degree program leader Kerry Cochrane said they have six internal and 40 external students in this first year of the course. Andy Monk the CEO of Biological Farmers Australia would like to see every tertiary institution with such a course. He estimates that one to one and a half percent of Australian primary producers are organic and this expects to grow to 2% by 2005.

GE Benefits a Myth

A comprehensive report by the UK Soil Association launched in September last reveals that most genetically engineered crops in North America have not delivered the benefits that were promised to farmers.

Copies of the report can be downloaded at www.non-gm.farmers.com,
or www.bfa.com.au
(Source: Earth Garden Dec. 02-Feb. 03)

Fertiliser Threat to Farmlands

In the National Land and Water Resources Audit, the first comprehensive report on the nation's soil and water, it states that the little-known problem of soil acidity, caused by excessive use of nitrogen fertilisers, is fast emerging as a major threat to food production and sustainability. Acidity was now threatening productivity on a quarter of Australia's farmlands and was costing $1.5 billion per year in lost production, the report said.

In contrast problems of soil salinity only affected one percent of arable land and caused on-farm losses of only $200 million.
(Source: Earth Garden Dec. 02-Feb. 03)

What Geomantica thinks - Acidity can be cured by sustainable farming practises as well as the application of volcanic rock dusts, which are highly alkaline and well as being a wonderful soil tonic providing a multitude of minerals, plus stimulating paramagnetic energy. Although lime has been traditionally used to sweeten acid soils it comes with the high price of a great deal of greenhouse gas emmisions in its production.

"RAIN SONGS" BREAK DROUGHT

NEWS - 16 December 2002

New words to old songs tell how to bring vitality & rain to Australia.
In the beginning was the word - and the words were sung with power and passion the night before the heaviest rainfalls in over a year were experienced across NSW. An Avalon singing group, "A'Cappella 'Round the Bends" sang a series of "Rainmaking" songs written by Richard O'Neill for "Ocean to Outback" .The songs were written with new words to well known tunes, with the intention of enabling people, including kids and communities, to quickly "sing-up" and revitalize themselves and the environment.

Rainmaking and Singing Up the Land are powerful processes practiced by most indigenous cultures to enrich the environment. Avalon, on Sydney's northern beaches was the sing-up centre on Monday night, and experienced the highest rainfall recorded as the drought broke in metropolitan Sydney. Rain has been falling across large areas of the state since the sing-up, quelling bush fires and revitalizing communities.

You can dismiss this as co-incidence, or remember the synchronistic moments in your life when you felt connected to the web of life, and knew something bigger was going on. Is this rain co-incidence, or a message?

Aboriginal Elder, Beryl Carmichael says - "My father, the late Jack Kelly was the last rainmaker in the Broken Hill area - singing & chanting is very powerful - it comes straight from within the soul in our language - we sing up fish, rain, and are the custodians of the birthing song of this region"

Karen Ashworth, Singtherapist and conductor of "A Cappella 'Round the Bends", believes in the power of the human voice for healing and wellbeing. " If we focus our intention through our voices as we sing, then real healing and wellbeing is possible. In fact anything is possible through the combined intent of groups and communities, large or small! This gathering and focusing of intention, amplifies its effects beyond measure. We, together can heal our land, our planet, and ourselves" says Karen.

Richard O'Neill, the author of the songs says, "The original caretakers of our country knew the importance of singing up the land, and the songlines. If more people do this, we can more quickly restore balance and flow in our dying rivers, and vitality to our land and bodies" Richard, who runs training & workshops teaching these principles says. "There is an ancient story of vitality and peace coming back to this country, and Earth, told in Aboriginal stories - we would do well to listen to people who carry the wisdom of the longest surviving culture on earth. My work is re-vitalizing people and businesses by showing them how to more deeply connect with their "soul" by deeper connection with Earth, for higher value outcomes including "Triple Bottom Line" outcomes. This is the way to a more vital future - after all our bodies are an electrical system that works better when grounded! - maybe this is what to "heal" really means - to connect with Earth. "

Ancient cultures predicted & recorded significant Earth changes around these times, which is why the Mayan calender ends in 2012 - things are hotting up as September 11 reminded us! It's time to be clear and purposeful in our actions.

Creation is a two way flow between "heaven and earth" or sun/earth energies. Humans and trees are "transformers" of this energy flow, which creates higher value outcomes if we stay "tuned". "Rhythm is the carrier of life" says Rudolf Steiner. Intentionally directed sound is a powerful tool able to restore dis-eased bodies and environments to harmony and higher vitality and creativity.

Rain Songs from "Ocean to Outback" is now available on CD with lyrics to well known tunes, and links to Rainmaking, healing, tours and Adventure Learning programs. Five percent of CD sales supports Country & Kimberley Kids projects. See the website www.excelink.com.au/rainsongs.html or call 0417 244 600.

Lightworkers and Nuclear Disarmament

Dear Sister and Brother Lightworkers,

Last night, I received a very strong and clear message, and I was asked to pass it along to you. You are also asked to pass this message to others please.

You are probably aware that many lightworkers cannot wear watches, because the watches break from the high-level energy of the lightworker. Many of us also have strange experiences with electrical items, again because of our high frequency of love energy.

Archangel Michael told me that we can use this spiritual gift to
energetically disarm nuclear weapons! He asked us to send waves of white light love to all military facilities, and anywhere that nuclear weapons are stored or manufactured. Lift the energy of those weapons, the personnel, and the location to such a high, high, high level of Divine love . . . that nothing with a lower-intention can work.

Together we can turn these weapons into New-Clear material. Weapons won't work for the intention of fear when we super-charge them with the energy of love. Archangel Michael showed me the dials on each missle going to "Tilt" and then breaking!

He would like us to particularly focus our energy each day at 5 p.m. in your individual time zone; however, please also join us in sending waves of Divine love throughout the day and night.

With love and blessings, Doreen Virtue

Letter from a Tassy Dowser

Hullo Alanna.
I have been wanting to contact you for some time. I've actually written to you a couple of times and the letters have been returned -" not known at this address". I got this email address from the website appearing on the case of the 'Dowsers Down Under' video that I borrowed from my neighbour Ross Henderson. It was Ross who got me started on dowsing about 15 years ago when we moved into Forth. I knew him through the local organic gardening society. He tested my soil for me. I was very interested in what he did. I had a pH testing kit at the time.

I started mucking around with a key attached to a piece of string. This pendulum gave me the same soil pH result as the test kit and from then on I was hooked. Much water has passed under the bridge since then. I have followed what I believe to be Universal guidance and this year obtained a diploma in Naturopathy. Ever since I learned about dowsing I've used my pendulum to help me sort out my own health issues. I have been very happy with the guidance I've received. My key on a bit of string has evolved to become a lovely rose quartz pendulum. I am on the verge of starting to work with other people on their health issues. Oh, incidently some where along my path I came upon your book Dowsing and Healing which I am very happy to have on my book shelf. It is a wonderful resource and I think I will continue to learn from it in the future.

I would very much like to contact other health practitioners who use a pendulum in their work so that I can learn more about using a pendulum with other people. Are you able to help me with such contacts?
I look forward to getting a reply from you

Regards from Brian Legg (Tasmania). brian.legg@bigpond.com

FRANK MOODY WRITES ABOUT

 'Just Another Day'

A nursery man asked for help. I found the whole area under topsoil clay. No materials for a Moody coil. Resorted to another way to make the area receive cosmic energy.

In all negative areas one can usually find a spot up to 3cms diameter accepting the energy.

Using my walking stick I got the direction and distance, then changed to pendulum. One has to be 100% accurate. Time stands still. I had seen a 2m steel fence post. Laid it down to neutralise polarity, then drove it in 45cms vertically.

Using the Y rod I demonstrated the rod charging 360 degrees and discharging 360 degrees, until the whole area was covered.

The water system was from a bore, of poor quality. On the plastic hose from the pump 20 turns of insulated wire was wound clockwise (for the southern hemisphere) with the negative end of 10cms pointing in the direction of water flow.

Using the pendulum this end was cut back gradually until a positive gyration was maximum. Started the pump when the old water in the sprays was flushed out. The new water rated 80%.

Of particular concern were two side by side 100m long rows of plants that weren't well. Six 2m stakes were placed vertically, two at each end and 2 central, facing each other. On all stake top sides facing the plants I painted in bold type Iodine 6C ( a dowsed remedy). The difference in one week was very pleasing.

'Iodine 6C' was then scraped off and substituted with 'Magnesium 30C', resulting in flowers that commanded a top price.

This is the first time that I have broadcast homoeopathic remedies on sticks with words.

Reverting to the steel fence post to introduce cosmic energy to small negative areas: I search for a stone that attracts me. Dig a hole on the dowsed spot, place the stone in it, with dowsed top facing up and dowsed orientation, then fill in. It radiates 360 degrees.

Experimenters may like to check on coils of one and a half turns exact using the west east energy common to both hemispheres.* Use insulated wire, negative end to west and positive to east. Ends 15cms long. Turns go anti-clockwise from negative/west. It radiates 360 degrees.

For those interested my rate is 7437 85253.

Esoteric Agriculture

 an Introduction

© Alanna Moore, December 2002.

Farming in Australia is usually portrayed in the media as a risky, expensive business prone to heart ache and disaster. The suicide rate is much higher in the financially stressed farming communities, fertility is low...

The trends seem to be quite the opposite in eco-agriculture! In fact on some farms there is a touch of magic going on, thanks to esoteric growing techniques.

Years of research with such techniques, finding that they could boost crop growth and help reduce agricultural chemical use, has impelled me to share my discoveries. But for years these ideas were considered too way out

Nowadays many people are attracted to nature based spirituality traditions and an eco-ethos is growing. Green concerns, previously focussed on saving forests and wilderness, are now also looking to the farm lands, where poisoned and nutrient mined soils are in their death throes.

Science has been little help in sustaining agriculture quite the opposite. Environmental solutions are mostly known, but governments
lack the will to implement them. The farmers will have to lead the way!

I find ever greater interest in my esoteric farming work and in many places there is a sense of inspired re-invigoration going on down on the farm. Newspapers are even reporting it! (See - In the Media section of this website for latest articles.)

Towards an Eco-spiritual Permaculture
Modelled on nature, the concept of a permanent culture is steering society away from its path of destruction and back towards holistic values deemed irrelevant by the gung ho economic system. It challenges the dominant paradigm by seeking creative solutions to global problems.

Permaculture is a design system where intelligent observation of landscape allows our landuse decisions to be tailored to site characteristics and capabilities. It gives us tools for listening to the land, rather than simply forcing our will upon it. 1.

As working in harmony and cooperation with nature is the permaculture way - permaculture design can also be used to help us plan with the more spiritual elements of the landscape in mind.

Permaculture was inspired by the highly productive polycultural gardens of traditional societies, where a richness of bio-diversity is often mirrored by the eco-spiritual wealth of a native peoples' animist beliefs. Such pagan paradigms are often characterised by reverence and protection of sacred sites, homes of the spirits of nature.

Principles of geomancy, feng shui and paganism complement permaculture principles beautifully. With them we can create landscapes of energetic harmony, beauty and productivity, while reducing our negative impacts on the planet. It starts with our thoughts and it can nourish not only our bodies and minds, but our hearts and spirits too.

Cultivating Ch'i energy
Patterns of natural energy flow are used extensively in permaculture design and on-site energy storage is a primary aim. Circular, spiralling, curving forms are preferred to linear patterns.

Permaculture methods of harnessing natural energies parallel the development of environmental ch'i (energy) in Chinese feng shui (geomantic) traditions. Where ch'i collects in the landscape there will be enhanced fertility and prosperity, predicts feng shui.

Likewise in permaculture, where the Keyline style of planning requires that earthworks, such as road building and ploughing, follow natural (curving) contour lines in order to prevent soil erosion and maximise rain penetration. (The act of soil aeration brings energetic benefits to the soil too.) Fence lines are also best run along the contour of the land (otherwise livestock can cause erosion); and along contoured earthworks fertility naturally follows.

Rocks are recognised as being useful in their ability to store heat
and keep plants warm in winter in a cool climate permaculture. But they are also especially useful in esoteric agricultural practices, which are based on the ancient legacy of the megalithic era in Europe.

The geomancers of old knew that certain areas in the landscape had stagnant ch'i and that the proper placement of certain stones acting as giant acupuncture needles would correct this problem. Standing stones were also thought to stimulate agricultural production. Dartmoor, for instance, is covered in row upon row of small standing stones, witness to the fact that, until a change in climate in the fourteenth century made it too wet, this was once a highly productive agricultural area.

Modern geomancy confirms that stones placed according to dowsing in the garden can have growth enhancing effects. And, thanks to the research of Professor Phil Callahan in Ireland and the U.S.A, we now know that certain volcanic rocks can provide energetic stimulus to plants around them if they have a highly paramagnetic rating. 2.

Callahan suggested that small models of Irish Round Towers might provide a growth stimulus, by acting as a wave guide to focus paramagnetism from the atmosphere into the soil. The practise of this new experimental technology has borne out his ideas. With the modern Tower of Power, plus mineral-rich paramagnetic rock dust incorporated into the soil, crop yields are increased, as well as flavour and nutritional content. Topsoils can re-grow rapidly, with poisons breaking down quicker. Towers can also have Earth acupuncturing effects. 3.

Water
Water has been recognised as a sacred landscape feature since ancient times and was traditionally treated with great care and respect. Our pagan forebears once visited the holy wells at pilgrimage times to give their offerings and receive the blessings of the well spirit, which sometimes manifests itself as a beautiful female being. Later the Christians took this tradition onboard and incorporated it into their own pilgrimages. The well goddess was transformed into a Christian saint. 4.

Water research today gives us insight into the consciousness aspect of water. Thanks to the work of Dr Emoto in Japan, we are now able to see the 'memory of water'. In Emotos greatly magnified photos of water crystals we see fascinating patterns, such as the mandala/snowflake forms which characterise pure water. Water that is polluted or exposed to natural calamities or even, in the classic example, to the word 'Hitler', take on an ugly, or sinister appearance. The act of blessing water, in the example of a polluted lake in Japan, restored the six pointed star pattern.(Emoto's website - www.hado.com.)

Emoto shows us that thoughts of love or healing can be impressed into water. As our bodies consist of over 70% water, Emoto notes, we can programme our own health with loving and healing thoughts.

What's in a Wilderness?
Wilderness zones in permaculture landscapes can be more important than what meets the eye. In Asia feng shui groves are often sacred forest remnants, usually found in locations where they help prevent erosion in the water catchment. In ancient Europe the revered sacred groves, once the temples of the Druids, were protected from development until Christian times.

From an environmental perspective permanent groves enhance microclimate, slowing down the movement of wind and water, and thus increasing the comfort and protection of people, livestock and crops. They provide an important refuge for wildlife and remnant vegetation, as well as displaced nature spirits (also known as devas). So they are essential for maintaining biodiversity for all the kingdoms of lifeforms.

Spirits of nature
One can describe the nature spirits as fields of consciousness in the energy matrix which govern the growth, form and behaviour of their associated lifeforms or landscape features. Some clairvoyants can see them, with observations varying somewhat in colour or form from one clairvoyant to another. (It all depends on the ability of the seer and the cultural context cloaking their vision.)

Slovenian artist Marko Pogacnik describes his observation of the devas in a fascinating book on the subject. 4. Devas, he says, tend to congregate around natural high energy centres and such places Pogacnik calls 'nature spirit temples'. (Australian biodynamic farmer Barbara Hedley refers to them as 'deva stations'.5.) The combined energies of such places can have wide reaching influences on the maintenance of patterns of growth and wellbeing in nature. By preserving these areas we may help to maintain the energetic integrity of the greater bioregion.

It is also possible to harness the devas' assistance to benefit ones' gardening, and this has been well documented in the work of the Findhorn community since the 1960's and more recently with Machaelle Small-Wright in the Perelandra Garden (USA). Lushly and easily maintained gardens with abundant productivity have resulted from such co-creative partnerships with nature.

Geopathic zones
Not all environmental energies are uplifting. Some may be stagnant or become an irritation. The spirits of place may be put out by earth or building works. To avoid this happening it's a good idea to connect, in meditation, with them, with a little ceremony of asking permission. Apologise for any disruption about to be caused and ask for their blessings.

A site study of geo-biology addresses the problem of geopathic - harmful Earth energy - zones. For example above underground streams of water are found unhealthy vertical emission fields. When coinciding with bed locations, these geopathic energies create what the Germans call a 'cancer bed'. So in the home these need to be avoided, or residents' health and wellbeing may be affected. However in the garden geopathic energies can be usefully harnessed.

Many scientific studies have been made of the simulating effects of magnetism on biological processes. Nature provides a similar, but gentler stimulus, in the form of geopathic and paramagnetic energies. Certain insects and microbes enjoy improved health and vitality when exposed to these energies. So you can place bee hives, compost heaps and compost toilets over high energy zones, and enjoy increased honey production and speeded-up composting processes.

In New Zealand dowser James Edmondson has found another good reason to place bee hives on 'hot spots'. The recently introduced Verroa Mite, which has been devastating hives around the country, has not been a problem with his hives, located according to dowsing. But one corner of one hive did turn out to have a mite colony. On checking the location of the hive James discovered that one corner of it was slightly off the energy line. That was the corner where the mites were found!

Divining the Energetic Landscape
Dowsing (also known as divining)is an easily learnt means of discovering the high energy or sacred sites in the landscape. Dowsing harnesses our innate electro-magnetic awareness and can be done either on-site, or from a distance with a map.

Dowsing has been employed the world over by gas, water and oil companies, to name a few, to detect problems or find supplies. It is an art with ancient origins. Modern scientists call it the 'bio-resonance method'.

Building Biology
When building design is considered, principles of both fengshui and building biology can be used to create healthy, harmonious and unpolluted homes that have a minimal impact on Mother Earth. Building biology is the science of the health and even social impacts of modern building practises and materials.

For example - a big problem these days comes from electro-stress from our mains power. The avoidance of metals in a building will help to reduce the problem of artificial electro-magnetic radiation.

With an energetic environment that nourishes all our needs appropriately, as well as those of other life forms, we can find a home for our spirit. An harmonious environment brings inspiration and enthusiasm, which can be can be positively channelled to achieve great things.

Our farms and backyards are a good place to assert what we believe and delight in. So all the better if we can demonstrate to others how we can improve on the quality and flavour of food crops with the alchemy achieved by nature and the eco-farmer working harmoniously together.

KIWIS AND COILS
- Radionics and Orchardry in New Zealand.

© Alanna Moore December 2002.

New Zealand is a green and fertile country on the Pacific 'rim of fire', where much volcanic activity has shaped this youthful land. It rained most of the days that I visited recently and I'm not surprised that the ancient Maori colonisers called it Aotearoa - the land of the long white cloud. They had trouble adapting their tropical crops to the temperate climate there.

But some crops are found to be very well suited to the conditions and kiwi fruit is a good example. This fruit is also known as Chinese Gooseberry, but the New Zealanders (who are also often referred to as kiwis) have 'reinvented' it and made it their own.

Tim Fowler had spent a life in retail business when, in 1980 he bought a parcel of bare, ex-market garden land. That enterprise had 'flogged' the soil, destroyed its structure, poisoned it with chemicals and stripped it of nutrients and organic matter. Not surprisingly, the kiwi fruit vines he planted did not do well until just a few years ago.

Tims task for the first two years was to plant out shelterbelts of trees. They grew well and by 1990 he had to remove 23 rows. He felt that some of the dead trees might be spreading phythophthera fungus into his vines. At this point in time he was harvesting a pretty ordinary amount of crop from the seven hectares of canopy, at 12,000 trays. These days he gets 40,000 and is aiming for 60,000, which represents 8,500 trays to the hectare, with the local industry average of 8,000 being normal for his region. This expectation comes despite the farm being in a very marginal location, being too high up and wind exposed and the soil type not favourite, a clay loam which is too heavy for the likes of kiwi fruit.

Clarrie Head came to help advise on Tims challenges in 1999 and eventually stayed on permanently. He started off leasing the orchard, which is medium to large sized in the industry, and took on the challenge to make it work. Clarrie wanted to reduce chemical use on the farm. There were canopy management issues and soil improvements programmes to be devised.

Although the farm is perched on part of an old volcano and soil is fairly rich, there was much adjustment needed. In 2000 they started off by spreading worm castings and lime at 7 tons to the acre, to get the low pH up, although the calcium content of the soil was okay. Since then there are lots of worms everywhere and when 60 holes were recently dug for
new plants, each one was chock-a-block with them.

Then Clarrie started to do some serious large scale compost making, bringing in broiler fowl manure, stable mulch from a nearby racehorse establishment, and lawn clippings from contractors. The finished compost is applied in late autumn or early winter, when it's easy to get under the canopy. To do this Clarrie uses a Sam Spinner, a belt driven top dresser which spreads the compost out with an auger, and this avoids bumping the vines.

During the winter months sheep are grazed through the orchard, which adds to the soil fertility.

In 2002 they were able to stop using chemical fertilisers, with the exception of Hicane, an acid spray for softening buds at bud burst. Sometimes they also spray BT, a natural product. Clarrie uses the biodynamic calendar to work out the best times to spray.

Clarrie has also been broadcasting two varieties of volcanic rock dust, including a commercial blend, Rok Solid, since July 2002. The soil has changed dramatically in the
last 18 months and is now more friable and fluffy, with once boggy areas now better draining and easier to drive around. Tractors don't get bogged anymore, despite the generous amounts of rain.

Will Tim be aiming for organic status, I asked? "I'm not really interested in certification. I want to do the right thing for the environment, but I don't think that organic status is good enough, as it stands. The philosophy behind it doesn't go far enough. You can't save the planet by default, just saying - I'm not using chemicals" he explained.

"My aim is to achieve real quality and flavour in my fruit, as well as being kind on the planet. I'd like to see the system change, evolve to a point where people are rewarded for quality; like picking up a premium when they can offer longer shelf life."

Tim told me that kiwi fruit sales to Japan from New Zealand had gone downhill until there was a focus placed on producing higher quality crops. The Japanese market is very discerning.

Testing proceedures
To work out the orchards requirements Clarrie has been testing dry matter content of vines for the last four years and it is good, at 18%. Brix readings are done 'all the time', although Clarrie concedes that testing procedures could be refined.

A Brix of 6.2 of the green matter has been a minimum requirement for kiwi fruit buyers. Here it is 7.2, and 7.5 would be better for longer storage life, although if it goes too high fruit can be too soft. (See the next/autumn 2003 edition of Geomantica magazine for a
story about The Meter Man and his Brix meters.)

Clarrie tried liquid fertilisers, such as seaweed extracts, but they didn't work. Trials are
done carefully, looking at, for example, bud break and comparing crops block by block,
year by year. Every year two leaf and fruit samples are sent to a laboratory and these
have borne witness to the steady improvements achieved. The most significant improvements have come since the rock dusts were applied, particularly noticed with
the soils better water retention and drainage despite a wet winter, and lots of clover
coming into the inter-row sward.

Every second year the soil is tested by Hills Laboratories in Hamilton. Potassium has
been shown to have been unlocked and nitrogen levels are high.

The orchard has many birds (the flower eating varieties being not so welcome) and bees
are used for helping pollination (they are fed sugar to assist with this).

Spiders are also numerous here and while a blessing in many ways, Clarrie found them
fairly irritating as he would be often bitten when walking around. The solution? He
talked to them and asked them to stop biting, and hasn't had much of a problem since.

The problem with organics
Clarrie has a background of conventional dairy farming in the '70's and ten years of
market gardening, both using lots of chemicals. However he has also had a great deal of experience in the kiwi fruit industry, having worked on the government marketing board
and an industry programme 'Kiwi Green'- to help reduce chemical usage. He was a
field officer for this industry group, monitoring for pests in the early 1990's. Kiwi Green taught growers to carefully monitor pests, rather than randomly spray chemicals just in
case. The programme helped to re-invigorate an industry where a lot of growers had lost interest.

"I'll spray pesticides if I have to, but only if it's necessary to save the crop" he said.
The industry standard has been to spray twice before flowering and three times later.

The Fowlers Farm had a scale problem covering 60% of the fruit at one stage.
Nowadays this has been reduced to about 5%. Clarrie has met up with supermarket operators from overseas who understand about the judicious use of sprays.

"Organic kiwi fruit are often riddled with scale, yet these people get a premium price.
It's grossly unfair!" says Tim, while admitting that "We have a huge responsibility
to protect this land."

Radionics
In February 2002 Clarrie met Alistair Cox, who has been helping the farm with radionic techniques, including specially designed agricultural coils. Clarrie was on a steep learning curve at the time, doing internet searches to find information on paramagnetism, organic farming, Callahan's and Shauberger's insights etc. One book of conventional science
that he read ('Soil Science Simplified') made a mockery of its own system, he said.

Alistair Cox came to the farm in early 2002 and did systematic testing by dowsing for
many things, including life force, minerals, heavy metals, enzymes, beneficial bacteria, pathogenic fungus, nitrates, vitamin deficiency, humus levels, toxic residues (which he
found to halve over the following 3 months), microtoxins, soil electrolysis, DDT, paramagnetism and diamagnetism, and other influences on the crop. He continues to
dowse at regular intervals from a distance and improvements he dowses have been
noticed on the ground too.

Although it is his first time with kiwi fruit Alistair has a good track record with his methods, helping dairy farms to improve production, while reducing their costs.

Treatments are compared with the help of the computer, analysing block by block of
vines. The recent warm winter and cold spring has made it hard to compare with other
years, however. Kiwi fruit crop very well on a biannual basis, and this current season was
a down year. Despite this there are all the indications that this will be a better crop than
ever. The vines certainly looked healthy and positively radiant with life force. Clarrie has noticed, in particular that the leaves are now much larger than before.

Weather station
"I like to blend scientific data with the more esoteric radionics" Clarrie said, as he
showed me the new 'toy'- a weather station linked to the computer. The radio connected station, bought for around $NZ7000 is an American 'Weather-Pro' model which can monitor soil moisture and temperature, rainfall, light intensity, air pressure, wind speed
and direction, humidity and leaf wetness.

Each morning the weather station is consulted and any potential risky conditions can be predicted. Frosts and winter chill can be easily predicted and a combination of high leaf wetness and high humidity can indicate a potential for fungal problems.

Thanks to the weather station Clarrie made a fascinating discovery. He noticed that each time he applied sprays (such as liquid worm castings, seaweed, and a brew devised by Alistair Cox) there was a big increase in soil moisture. Normally after rain it took about 3 hours for the soil moisture readings to rise. The unexpected rises after spraying occurred very rapidly, after just half an hour. Clarrie thinks that perhaps the sprays are pulling moisture out of the atmosphere.

While they currently irrigate the vines from creek water on the property they hope to be
able to reduce this when the soil moisture is consistently improved.

Radionic coils
Another technique utilised by the Fowlers comes in the form of agricultural coils, the original inspiration for which comes from Australia's Frank Moody. Frank, who is currently 99 and still working, regularly travels to New Zealand to consult on farms and practise radionic healing. He recently told me of his success with clearing pest possums from an orchard there by radionic means. (You can read about his coils in my book
'Stone Age Farming', available from Geomantica. See his article elsewhere in this magazine.)

Alistair Cox has developed the Moody coil a bit further. His radionic balancing work
on the farm began in March 2002 and has involved constant fine tuning. He first
installed 5 radionic coils, but these have been reduced to 3 now. Clarrie tells him
about any problem in the crop, then Alistair works out a device or technique to deal
with it radionically. Sickly plants and small croppers which might be stressed after flowering have had their life force doubled, but it's early days yet for cropping
results. The current crop will not be going through the shed until May 2003.

The coil I saw is made from copper wire attached to a wooden pole. It has three loops
and continues down into the ground for earthing. It incorporates jars of samples
(for fertilisers, crystals, programmed water etc) that are constantly being changed. At
ground level one jar contains soil remedies, the jar above provides energies for flowers
and fruit above ground. This one large coil radiates influences out over the whole
orchard.

When I was there I located several spots to place Towers of Power. It was a bit of a
difficult exercise, as they could not be located in the interrow spaces, so positions close
to the vines were needed. A few days afterwards I got a phone call from Tim who was
very happy to report a dowsed increase of 140% for the energy of the orchard, since
four Towers had been erected there.

Mystery vine problem
In the midst of all this work there has been one continuing problem in the vines, a
problem that is widespread throughout the industry and particularly prevalent in the
south Auckland area. And nobody really knows what causes it. Trunks swell up,
because the centre is dying and the vine thickens around the dead bits. While the
roots are okay, the leaders also die. No-one is sure whether it's a fungal or bacterial problem.

"Vines are shallow rooted, but in winter the water table is very high" says Clarrie,
who is hoping that the improved growing conditions might see an end to this problem.

Hopefully Geomantica will be able to provides some updates on the Fowlers Farm in the
future.

Postscript January 2003 - Alanna Moore will be conducting a Stone Age Farming workshop day at this farm on Tuesday March 11th. See under workshop lisitings.

OBITUARY Bill Jackson

Bill Jackson, a long time member of the NSW Dowsers Society,
passed away early December 2002. Bill had spent over 20 years
surveying homes for dangerous levels of EMR in the Newcastle
area of NSW. Bill was well known for his work, with his copper
Ankhs for neutralising geopathic stress a bit of a trademark.

I felt the urge to interview him last winter, but alas it didn't
eventuate, as a brain tumour had been discovered and his
health was deteriorating rapidly. He had been very keen to
be interviewed, his wife told me he would have loved it.

Are You Sleeping in a Safe Place?
by Bill Jackson - RIP

When Bill fell ill and couldn't make it to the interview he sent me a
booklet he had compiled - 'Electromagnetic Radiation Can Be
Harmful Where Your Health is Concerned'. To share some of
Bill's wisdom I have extracted parts it here.

"People must be made aware of (EMR) hazards and how they can affect
some people. Every day the demand and use of 240V AC50cps electrical power is increasing at an alarming rate and in proportion the levels of
radiation are increasing in the home.

A problem in the electrical system of a neighbours home even two
doors away can cause reflected current to flow through the water pipes
of your home. The manufacturer of the appliances that create or add to
the levels of the home are reluctant to discuss these matters, perhaps
for good reason. The electrical authorities shelter under the umbrella
of excessive levels they claim are safe. They are not.

When I started to survey homes for EMR in 1980 I encountered
the problem of heavy radiation from water pipes in most homes.
All through the home there were high readings around the floor
areas and up to chair and bed level. There were no earth spikes
or electrodes on a lot of the buildings.:

Lifting the earth wire off the pipe eliminated the EMR problems.
When an A/C volt meter was used to measure between the earth
wire only a small amount of voltage was registered, ie 8-10 volts.
The only conclusion I could reach was that the main radiation being
transmitted from the water pipe had to be of a radio frequency nature,
and by the 'sounds' coming out of the test equipment being used,
was mainly in the low frequency area of 50-400Hz plus harmonics.

The noise went completely in one house and the lady who was
in the home at the time asked 'what did you do then, the house
feels so different.' I had isolated the water pipes adjacent to the
water meter.

I went to the Water Board and the Electrical Supply Authority and
discussed the matter with them. They suggested that the insertion
of one meter of poly pipe into the supply line from the meter to the
house be carried out by a licensed plumber i.e. remove copper and
replace with polypipe.

The Electrical Authority suggested that a licensed electrician should
check the earthing situation and if necessary replace with 6mm
earth wire from the meter box to an earth spike and continue on to
a bonding on the closest cold water pipe.

I have adopted this procedure on all surveys since and
recommended that all homes be isolated as a prudent
measure to reduce or eliminate EMR in the home and other
buildings.

I have seen some amazing changes in peoples sleep pattern,
general health and quality of life when we have been able to
advise what steps to take to reduce the EMR pollution in the
home, especially the bedrooms. 'Prudent avoidance' and
'Prevention is better than cure' should be the phrases we adopt.

There are ways people can take action to overcome the problems,
reduce or even eliminate them. We need people trained to be
able to advise those who wish to make their living and sleeping
spaces as safe as possible before their health is affected.
Training of such people would not be difficult. Commonsense,
the use of simple test equipment and a dedication to the work
is all that is required."

Book Reviews:

Beware of the Fairies!

Book Review and Rave by Alanna Moore, reprinted from Geomantica no.8.

'Irish Fairy Tales' by Jeremiah Curtin, Barnes and Noble Books, New York, 1993 edition.

Before my year 2000 research trip to Ireland I attempted to do some homework and discover where I could find interesting, ancient sites (as well as Round Towers) to visit. I was amazed to learn of the vast numbers of such sites, as described in books. For instance, so called ring forts (ancient clan village enclosures with circular embankments) number in the 30-50,000 mark! There are more ancient sites in Ireland than anywhere in Europe, I found out.

"It's because the Irish are so superstitious", my ex-patriate-Irish dowser friend Sandy Griffin explained. He illustrated his contention with the following story. As a young man working in rural Ireland in the 1940's, he was once walking down a country lane with another young man who was a firewood supplier. They were passing by an old ring fort, covered by an ancient, gnarled hawthorn grove. The trees were mostly dead, with very thick trunks. "Would you know of any good firewood around here?" Sandy asked. "Ah, no. Nothing around here" was the reply. "But what about all that?" he asked, pointing to the ring fort. "Oh, that ! You can't cut those down, they're the homes of the fairies. They dance around them at night!" he said, intoning that wasn't that obvious? Sandy thought it quite amusing at the time.

When I arrived in Dublin last April and discussed this with Sandy's cousin's family they were much more to the point. "It is the fairies which protect the sites!" Not just the belief in them, I noted. Fairies, it turns out, in the Irish view of things, are not always the happy little sprites we have been led to believe. They can also be fierce guardians of their homes. Demolish a Bronze Age barrow mound or ancient tree grove and beware the consequences!

Ireland's ancient belief system, which has survived to this day in many ways, is greatly exemplified in those stories which we have inherited as 'fairy tales'. In fact reading the book of 'Irish Fairy Stories', which were collected about 100 years ago, one is given fascinating insights into a land where the veils between the spirit world and the physical are often quite thin, particularly on certain days and in certain places. There is a strong fear that the fairies will be offended by some environmentally unsound action and steal away your spirit, for enslavement in the fairy kingdoms, or some such punishment.

In relation to geomancy, the last story in the book concerns someone who built an extension to his house on the wrong side, where it interfered with a fairy pathway. Despite being warned by someone who was friendly with the fairies, the man went ahead, and consequently suffered dire consequences.

These stories can only serve to reinforce the need to maintain the geomantic pathways in the landscape. And they have been very successful, much like Australian Aboriginal scary bunyip type stories have long kept inquisitive people away from dangerous, sacred or taboo places.

The sad thing is that Ireland is currently hurtling into the future at a terrifying rate, being at its most affluent ever, thanks to a burgeoning information technology and tourism industry. Shiny new cars clog the tiny, stone-walled roads everywhere. The old homes are crumbling and new mansions are springing up everywhere. The nation is frantically trying to forget the centuries of poverty and oppression, by sweeping away the past and killing it with neglect. The modern miracle that Ireland is now is just not sustainable. The newfound sophistication comes at too high a price: the rivers are dying, farmland is disappearing under motorways, and the fairy realms are shrinking. If you want to see the old Ireland - be quick!

In the meantime, find a book such as this one and indulge in tales about Otherworlds. It conveys some part of the white Australian mindset, given that, around the 1850's one third of our population came from the Emerald Isle. Unfortunately the Irish at the time were largely victims of English repression, so their history and rich cultural traditions have been mostly ignored in the dominating paradigm of our Anglo-centric bias.

Watts the Buzz?

by Lyn McLean, 2002, Scribe Publications. Review by A.P. Moore
Available from the Electromagnetic Radiation Association of Australia,
Email - emraa@acay.com.au

If you have any interest in the impact of environmental energies I highly
recommend this book, penned by someone deeply involved in the
dissemination of information on the subject. Lyn has fielded many calls
from the public about problems associated with e-m-r.

There haven't been anything like enough safety studies done, but we, the
public, are being used as guinea pigs and it may not be for years from now before there will be adequate legislation to protect us from the evils of e-m-r.

In the meantime we must be vigilant. You can forget terrorism,
our appliances and power supplies are killing us in the everyday world!

In this book you will discover facts such as in December 2000 there were
over ten million mobile phones in Australia (one of the highest rates per capita
globally). That worldwide use of such phones has doubled between the end
of '99 and the end of 2001.

A multitude of mobile phone antennas, as free standing monopoles, have
been visually and insidiously blended into our environment, hidden in
Church crosses and trees but you can find out just where they are.

Log into the government website for locations at www.aca.gov.au/database/radcomm/index.htm.

Anecdotal evidence, European statistics and scientific experiments with animals
suggest that there is an increased likelihood, when exposed to mobile phone base station e-m-r, to Alzheimers, sleeping problems, nervousness, joint pain, blood changes, leaukemia, slower childhood development, etc. Property values also plummet when a phone tower goes in nearby.

Near a radar station there have been reports of clusters of cancer, decreased tree growth, animal reproductive changes, increased epileptic fits, deteriorating cow health and lactation until the cow is removed from the area

Studies show that there can be an increased risk of cancer when people are exposed to just one milligaus and upwards of magnetism. Yet the Australian government allows exposures of up to 1000mg as okay!

What about if you want to have a baby? If you are exposed to e-m-r you have
increased likelihood of reproductive problems and miscarriage, while infants
exposed to e-m-r will be more prone to SIDS (because of the low levels of brain hormone melatonin after irradiation).

Electricians have double the national suicide rate (and I thought it was mainly
chemical farmers). Policemen using radar guns have very high rates of testicular cancer. Sweden has an epidemic of people who are allergic to electricity andhas had to build a special hospital for them....

How to reduce radiation damage? Apart from avoidance of e-m-r, or shielding
measures, eat a diet rich in antioxidants says Lyn, suggesting vitamin C and E,
selenium, herb chaparral and enzyme superoxide dismutase.

Interesting Websites

Hello,
I was reading through your Geomantica issues and saw where you were soliciting the URLs of excellent websites.

I believe the Canadian Society of Dowsers' website qualifies (even if I'm the webmaster). Please check it out at:
www.canadiandowsers.org <http://www.canadiandowsers.org>
There is now 48 pages.

Cheers,
Diane
