Winter Solstice June 2002 the E-magazine of dowsing & geomancy, in Australia and beyond. Edited by Alanna Moore. Welcome readers to the winter edition. It isn't out early and there was too much material to put in more than one back issue article ('Suburban Sacred Site'), but I'm sure no-one will complain because, once again, there are some wonderful articles awaiting you, all fresh and new! Enjoy! Cheers - Alanna Moore.
This standard will apply to mobile phones, phone antennas, industrial RF welders, induction heaters and furnaces. It mainly protects people from the effects of radiation that are caused by heating. The new standard, which is based on WHO recommendations, allows people to be exposed to higher radiation levels, up to 4 times as much in some cases. However the EMR Association fear health problems may arise at levels of radiation insufficient to cause heating. There has been a strong link between mobile phone use and brain tumours in many international studies. The standard includes a weak precautionary statement in it, which recommends that minimalisation of RF radiation in the workplace should be achieved only if it is "readily achieved at a reasonable expense," while it doesn't support doing this to any degree beyond the levels of the standard. "Why do we need a new standard when technology is operating perfectly well at the present lower levels?" asks EMR News. It seems that "Last year the committee that devised the standards was told that the higher radiation levels were needed to accommodate new mobile phone technology. That begs the important question: has the standards-setting process been driven by scientific research or by economic motives?" A copy of the standard and supporting documents is available from ARPANSA's website at www.arpansa.gov.au/rf_standard.htm Source: EMR News June 2002. An application by Energex to erect a power sub-station in a residential area of Brisbane was rejected on health risk grounds recently and this was upheld by the Planning and Environment Court. To the knowledge of the EMR Association this is the first time in Australian legal history that the health risks of such a planning decision were the main focus. In council's presentation to the court it argued that, given the body of available scientific evidence, it could not guarantee that approving the application would not result in a health risk to the community. The court recognised the statistical association between EMR fields and health problems such as childhood leukemia and the fact that the WHO has classified magnetic fields as 'possible carcinogens'. It recognised statistical evidence that long term exposure of children to fields above 4 milligaus may be a hazard. An agreement was reached whereby Energex agreed
to construct underground feeder lines to and from the substation
and that it would undertake to ensure exposures at defined locations
would not exceed 4mG and to verify these measurements on request. Source: EMR News June 2002. The Federal Court has imposed heavy penalties on Purple Harmony Plates P/L and its directors. The company received a $20,000 fine for failing to implement a previous order, for breaching the Trade Practises Act by making unsubstantiated health claims for its product. Among the claims on the internet site were that it "protects against electromagnetic radiation from computers, tvs, mobile phones etc". Info at www.accc.gov.au Source: EMR News June 2002. Rob Martin lives in a wonderful part of the world the Atherton Tablelands, where high altitude tropical living means crisp cool nights in winter and much milder summers than down on the hot, humid coast. Nearby Ravenshoe is the highest town in Queensland, with an altitude of about 800m above sea level. Rob has resided at his 85 acre farm 'Northern Lights' for some 26 years and has been promoting organic farming and growing commercially for much of that time. He has hosted on-farm workshops with the likes of Dorothy Maclean, of Findhorn fame and Bruce Cathie, the grid line researcher, has often visited. These days his organic growing efforts have been somewhat scaled down and now he specialises in producing just a few vegetables for selling at the vibrant local markets, as well as 'energised honey'. 'Energised honey'? It's what bees produce when they drink specially energised water. For these days Robert is focussing on water research more than anything. Although I was disappointed that he was not still using agricultural coils and antennas to boost his crop growth, it was interesting to hear something of the history of his research in that field. Agricultural coils & antennas Robert has also set up agricultural antennas as designed by Bruce Cathie and these were incredibly powerful. But they also got all the locals talking, as people got wind of them and he felt he was starting to get a bit of a witchy type of reputation. (He was obviously ahead of his time!) Agricultural radionics When the dreaded New Guinea Fruit Fly caused panic in the north when it appeared a few years ago the region was bombarded by pesticides trying to annihilate the new pest. An organic farmer quietly asked Robert for help when he discovered an infestation in his Mareeba orchard of mangoes and paw paws. Rob obtained an aerial photo of the farm taken from an ultralight plane. The dull side of the negative was placed on a piece of white cardboard within a radionic type broadcast diagram, with the addition of the dowsed out numerical frequency of the pest. A drop of pyrethrum was placed in a glass phial and this was put on top of the witness (the negative) on the diagram, which was dowsed as needing to be kept in place for two days to have effect. Robert put it all in a cupboard and promptly forgot about the whole thing. The owner rang him a couple of weeks later to say that all the fruit fly were now gone. When he went to look at the radionic set-up in the cupboard a very strange phenomena has occurred. The white cardboard had mostly disintegrated, almost as if burnt, I observed when Robert showed it to me. Of course he was quite blown away by all this, with the realisation of the incredible power of the mind. "This power needs to be greatly respected, you really have to watch what you are doing, and you certainly don't need one of those expensive machines to achieve effects" he believes. Robert has a tremendous respect for nature and these days doesn't over-worry about bugs, who might only take 5% of produce. "I just don't make a big deal about bugs" he says. Water research and Mr Emoto Beautiful mandala patterns are evident when water is pure and natural. However pollution can totally degrade this normal patterning. Even the word 'Hitler' can create a murky mess of water that has been exposed to the word on a piece of paper. I was particularly impressed to read of an experiment done with sunflower seeds germinated and watered with two lots of water. One water had been impressed in the same manner with the words "You fool", the other with "Thankyou". The resulting sunflower plant roots were photographed for the book. The "You fool" watered plants had roots that were stunted and had unhealthy lumps on them. The "Thank you" sunflowers had long, lush, healthy roots. Robert told me that Emoto has recently been working with water as a medium to imprint healing frequencies specially formulated for sick people, in a kind of modern radionics. Photo by Alanna Moore below: NEWS FLASH !!! In north Queensland Emoto will give a talk, for a nominal fee, at the Cairns Spiritual Centre (corner of Greenslopes and Little St) on Thursday 15th, and he will be showing a film at the Cairns TAFE on Friday 16th and also at the Atherton RSL on Saturday 17th. © Steven Guth, Canberra, May 2002 Crop circles hit the world, well, sneak into the world's awareness in the early 1970s. At first the circles were accepted by many as the imprints left from flying saucers after nocturnal visits to our planet. I remember people searching for the holes that must have been left by landing struts. No holes. The answer to that was the spacecraft hovered balancing by antigravity. As crop circles designs came more complex and the net (at that stage largely an academic's toy) began to carry images, puzzlement grew with the growth in complexity and number of new crop circles. The phenomenon is yet to reach significant attention in the mass media. So by 2002 not all that many people know about them and recognise them as the serious and miraculous phenomenon they are. Many seem happy with the notion that there were created by groups of pranksters. There are crop circles created by humans. Early copies were so crude that they only served to illustrate the miraculous nature of the real phenomenon. Currently people are creating pretty good crop circles, some are almost as good as the real thing. Visit http://home.clara.net/lovely/milkhill97.html for a readable discussion on the complexity of the "real" and a list of the difficulties of making a 100% copy (the lack of footprints being an obvious one). Visit http://www.busty-taylor.com/cropper/zealand.htm for a description of how a simple circle was made for a Japanese TV documentary in New Zealand. Over the last 10 years I've met two English people who have had direct personal contact with crop circles during their formation. Both shone with light when they discussed the creation process that they had experienced. They had stood next to a miracle and it had left an imprint on their bodies. Slowly my scepticism started to vanish. By now, a few years later my initial disbelief has changed to an attitude somewhat like the one expressed in the quote below. It comes from http://www.mightycompanions.org/cropcircles/ "Since these formations, which appear in crop fields around the world, are largely ignored by the media, and what has been reported by and large has been startlingly irresponsible, their genuine nature as a non-human perpetration is not understood by the majority of people. Those who do know what is happening call the appearance of the designs the most awesome thing that ever has happened to humanity. We are being visited and signalled. There is no debate about this among those who are paying attention to what is going on. That there is so little recognition of the fact that this is happening is as astonishing as the very existence of these art works that are executed from another dimension." The quote below, from the same site, is by John Michell a respected author known for his carefully researched books on earth energy phenomena. "A great power has arisen, directing thoughts and perception in a certain direction, towards a more complete and satisfactory view of reality than the modern conventions of materialism have previously allowed. Gently, subtly, with no disturbance or panic, we are being guided across a watershed, from one world view to another. And this is in no way arbitrary, but a purposeful process, in accordance with the interests of eternal nature and the necessities of the present. We can now see something of what the ancients meant when they spoke of revelation." Well, having accepted the above propositions I've had to mediate and think about the phenomenon. I've presented my musings as a stream of consciousness, within the time frames that I first wrote them up with pencil on paper. (I write on paper, I compose on the computer. ) Written at Windshore Hermitage at 6.00am ... 3/5/02 I don't watch television so after dinner I talk, read or drift between meditation and digestion. It was doing that last night visualising and puzzling over crop circles. I've given up wondering about the "how" - I know as much physics as the "common man" and that's nowhere near enough. And so I'm focusing on the "who" or perhaps it is the "what" that is creating crop circles drifting once in the while into the "why". I seem to have another common ability to contact the consciousness that is in hills, buildings, streams, statues, trees and people. People present more of a problem, but I am not too bad doing that either. So I'm working on the assumption that I will be able to do the same with who or what is creating crop circles and perhaps even reach out to get the why. Now working in this way means you don't think about the problem rather you become the problem. Retaining one's identity one wanders and drifts into the situation one is investigating. I call this Zenning the situation. Author Robert Pirsig in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" describes and illustrates the technique brilliantly in a way our machine dominated western minds can understand without once using the word "Tao". For Pirsig one becomes "one" with the machine and so its pleasures, its aches, its pains become part of one's awareness. One does this by sitting on and using the motorcycle rather than by taking it apart bit by bit and analysing the function of every nut and bolt. I use the same technique to design books, solve business problems and work out how to assemble dinner from the leftovers in the fridge. It works well for helping people with their health problems too. But back to last night. I was sitting here. On this couch visualising crop circles that I've seen in the 1999 crop circles calendar. I was working on "falling down" into the middle of the designs. I was doing fairly well and ended up deep underground amidst the streams and energy consciousnesses that live under this hillside - under this house which I have shaped and positioned to maximise the geomantic potential of the location. Well, this meditation technique lead me to the idea, the best who and why I have come up with. Crop circles come from the gnomic forces of our planet, the beings the ancients called the "Giants of the Earth". Who live under the ground ... Jack didn't climb a bean stalk he really went down a travel hole in his barn. Other giants. Well, there is Atlas, who the Greeks visualised as living under the earth and holding it all up. That's true enough. The gnomes live in the earth and hold it together by their wishing and singing. Than of course, there was the Minator; he lived on the volcanic island of Minos and occupied the labyrinth that stretched out under the Palace. In fact that connection between the labyrinth and the giant is a good clue. And don't forget the Nazis. They had crazy ideas about a hollow earth in which lived beings, the giants of Nordic mythology that hopefully would help them with their intentions once contact was established. Alas, this is the best I've come up with. I think it's true, you may not. Actually, the whole problem is extraordinarily difficult to work one's way into. There has been so much thought about crop circles with so much attached emotion, that a cloud of intermediate zone junk simply overwhelms the meditating investigator. It's as if there is a circle of ideas clustered around crop circles that one has to ignore to get at the realities that may be behind the phenomenon. Ideas that have come to me range from the specific it's people, its UFOs, it's the government's secret weapons, ancient Druids, disincarnate people, LSD elementals, benevolent space people, the very devil, Pythagorus and his friends, physicists from the future. To the generalistic it's Gaia telling us how to save the world, it's God showing us how creation takes place, or it's God showing us that he/she exists. But let me tell you about how I got to
my discovery. On the couch at Windshore 3/5/02 Here I am sitting on the couch at Windshore. Kathrine, my partner has just come in from the bed room and the morning sun is drifting across the pad as I write. Kathrine says, "It was strange last night." It sure was. She goes on to say, "The sound was like somebody playing on the fly wire and ripping up baking paper at the same time." A good description. I thought at first that it may have been the kangaroos around the house, but really it was too much like the wind for that. It went on for 15 to 20 minutes. A strong torch out the window revealed nothing - not a roo, not a breath of wind. Aha, thinks I, crop circles noises - a bit like what people describe as accompanying crop circle development. So something is trying to do crop circles around here, around this house. Well I guess it shows that some level of human interaction is part of the phenomenon. I'll check on the morning - good that I brought the camera with me. Morning, 7 am, at Windshore ... 3/5/02 That brings me to the here and now it's time to check for circles, or at least for bent over weeds. Morning, 9 am, at Windshore ... 3/5/02 Not a bent over stalk. We wandered over the hill behind the house and check the surrounding area. Not a thing. Lots of roo tracks the only animals that live on this 100 acre plot. Plenty of dry and St. John's Wort (a woody weed, about a metre high) to be bent over, but nothing.

Going back a night to 2/5/02. I had been thinking about crop circles for weeks, surfing the net and letting the problem rest in the back of my mind. I was in bed, really tired and about to drop off and go to sleep. Kathrine came in and asked, "Do you hear the noise?" Half awake, half asleep I wondered what she meant. I could see that she had been on the veranda with a torch and was encouraging me to could do the same. I got up grabbed the torch and shone it out the window, thick mist - the clouds were around us and nothing could be seen. Then I heard the noise, somewhere between a click and a bubble. Roos I thought (there really are roos around both our houses, generally inarticulate they do on occasionally make strange noises). I was puzzled and about to go back to sleep when it happened again. No, it wasn't water bubbles in the roof drains well, its not bothering us, so forget about it and I dropped off and went to sleep. The next morning our son Robert told us that he heard a scary noise outside his window - which is on the directly opposite side of the house. He put it down to frogs outside his room. His girlfriend said it was, "A monster". None of us had any idea when it came from - perhaps from under the house?. Late morning, 10.30 am at Windshore 3/5/02 We'll see what happens tonight. Next day. 8.00 at Windshore 4/5/02 Nothing did. I admit my fear got the better of me or perhaps it was caution and I pushed the crop circle phenomena out of the back of my mind, letting family matters take up the space. I've just meditated on the problem, and I've come to accept the conclusion that crop circles are manifested from the gnomic forces that reside inside our planet. It seems we have woken up the old giants who've given the new ideas, new wisdoms, new tools. The new tool seems to be the silicon chip - here we are spanning the globe with a magical crystal technology created by plasma and employing a strange new force somewhere between electricity and light. Apparently the force that makes the chips work is embedded in the consciousness of the gnomes. The gnomes are the Beings, the Devic energy, the Gods of manifestation they make the material world happen. No stone, building, animal or bird could exist without the force of crystallisation they supply. Without them we humans would be pure consciousness without any hope of bodily existence. Interacting with the earthly gnomes are energies - Beings from other realms. Conventionally we call them the Devas of fire, air and water. All energies that could never have a material form without the earthy gnomes to supply the matrix, the woof into which they manifest. Without the earthy gnomes they (and we) would just be energy waveforms moving endlessly through intergalactic space. The gnomes around me and around our two houses have had very little input from people. I believe it significant that the best manifestations of crop circles appear at locations where earth energies have been interacting with humans for hundreds perhaps even thousands of years. Create a Stonehenge, do ceremony and ritual and gnomes (plus God knows what else) are going to come and watch and absorb the doings. So the gnomes, the monsters from the inner earth that live around me just don't know how to collect enough energy to do with they would have liked to do. Perhaps they wanted to play with me, perhaps they showed me their willingness to cooperation, perhaps they wanted to scare me? Whatever, it seems they didn't have enough accumulated wisdom or enough energy to create a full crop circle manifestation. Why do the gnomes bother to create crop circles.? Because they want to play. The universe is a creative play, an interplay of possibilities. Simply, gnomes like to do and doing crop circles is a new game. Read some of the papers on Astrognosis and perhaps you too will come to suspect that creative play is perhaps the touchstone of the total cosmos, the "why" of creative evolution. I need to add that I have given only a simple outline of my meditative perceptions. It seems that crop circles are more than just a manifestation of gnomic energies. Other consciousnesses are undoubtedly playing into the situation as well - perhaps they are disincarnate Druids, interstellar intelligences, or the astral leftovers of drug blown computer programmers. The intermediate zone is full of these realities and it is hard to pick out the ones that are a likely best fit. Crop Circles, Gnomes and Humans. Seemingly gnomic and human consciousness are interlinked, each influences the other. Wisdom gained by humans passes on to the giants and enables them to play new games. Undoubtedly the reverse is also true. The implication of this is that we humans and the Devic kingdoms are locked into a cooperative planetary game. No one can play hide and seek alone. Humans can no more hope to control nature than they can hope to hide from themselves. Perhaps - so it is suggested to me - this is the "Why" that the crop circle phenomenon is trying to demonstrate to us. This may sound strange to our ears, trained as we are to believe that the scientific method can dominate nature. But the truth is that creative forces of the universe and human consciousness are one and the same thing. This is certainly the basic Astro and Ecognosis position. The quote from Blolfeld below illustrates this Know that your mind itself is immeasurable, the container of a myriad, myriad universes, each of them vast beyond your comprehension. All the illimitable power that exists in those myriads of universes would be yours in full, if you had the wisdom enough to use it. The same is true of every sentient being ... when a single bee sucks honey, all beings in the myriad universes suck honey; when a worm is crushed, all beings in those universes are crushed. Remember, the source of all power lies within yourself ... The "How"? Well, I got a hint which I can pass on. Watch a dust devil, a small tornado, a vortex that draws up from the earth dust and debris and lifts it high into the sky. Seemingly crop circles are created in a similar way but use an energy closer to the creative rather than the destructive side of planetary doings. Now, think about this for a minute. If groups of gnomes, the giants of old, can manipulate energy for play what could happen if they did so to fulfil needs which they felt were imperative? Steven Guth (email - guthltd@mpx.com.au)
The energy of place, the power of intention. When the spirit of place is focussed upon, these factors can combine into a magical synergy... Sacred sites around the planet are often to be found in association with a powerful energy vortex of seven or eight rings. Cathedrals have later been built over such sites and, in the Australian context, I have found that Aboriginal bora grounds are also located over a vortex. As a geomancer I have had to attempt to either move or shut down vortices when they were found in peoples homes. The energy is usually too intense to live with. But what may happen when we embrace the potential that is offered? In these cases an Earth energy vortex in a suburban home goes through an energy activation process and gains the potential to become a sacred site - a healing site for the local area and beyond, a vibrant node in the Earths energy network, "like a shining beacon that is connecting with other sacred sites around the world". And so begins a fascinating voyage into the vortex Site history The vortex was fairly dormant in those days, but it was still capable of affecting consciousness. Barbara and her daughter began their own self-healing journeys and eventually Barbara started to work as a spiritual healer, using the vortex room after her daughter moved out. This was the beginning of the activation of the vortex. I was invited to stay over when passing through Melbourne and when I got to stay there I got the feeling that I needed to do an energy dowsing survey of the house. My assistance was then enlisted to work with the vortex I had found there and to be a part of an activation process. Vortex characteristics When originally dowsed, it was found that the vortex had two or three energy rings and covered just one corner of the room. By February 2000 eight wide energy bands were found to be spreading across the small house block and Barbara was told that these would be increasing. The Earth energies vary in strength and character according to the cycles of the sun, moon and planets, and the vortex is strongest at full moon. (However the strength, clarity and purity of peoples intentions is always the greatest factor in this and all transformation work.) After several sessions of meditation work I was invited to 'interview' spirit energies about the site and spread the word. These are their words, as channelled by Barbara. Connecting up "The site has the effect of accelerating healing processes, not just for individuals on-site but also there is a 'fall-out' effect for a long distance. The rest of metropolitan Melbourne is acted upon by this energy going out. With more people coming and using the site, more consciousness is brought to this space and the influence will be spread further. Still more anchoring work is required to be done relating to Earth changes." "In the network of sacred sites people provide the heart centre, connecting Heaven and Earth. These sites are the chakra points and they are found all over the universe. There is a perception that there are a fixed number of sacred sites. We have facilitated the development of this site to show that these sites can be anywhere and everywhere, just as this vortex covers an ordinary house block in the suburbs, acting as a beacon of light and connecting with the other sites. So healers can connect with this site, which acts as a portal to bring down the highest healing forces. They can connect with it from wherever they may be." So it was requested that this information be spread far and wide to assist both personal and planetary healing, to improve the vibrancy of the planet's energies and to accelerate healing processes. Amidst the pain of the suburbs - a sacred site was birthed! Merlyn's big picture Another Site in the Making 'Heart House' as it had became known, had been empty for some time. I was asked to do an energy dowsing survey and soon found that there was a small four ringed, yang polarised, upward flowing vortex, located in the corners of several rooms. A photo of the Dalai Lama had been put up in the vortex corner of the lounge room. Standing on one of the bands of the vortex I closed my eyes, sank into a meditative state and attuned to the latent energy there. Almost immediately I became aware, in my mind's eye, of an old Aboriginal elder man spirit before me. He was friendly and I asked him mentally if it was okay if friends did spiritual work there. Yes it was, he told me, and he would help. Behind him in the distance I saw a host of Aboriginal spirits connected to him, perhaps an ancient ancestral line, which stretched out upwards ad infinitum. I was quite surprised at my rapid introduction to his world, especially as I usually didn't perceive spirits visually. But such is the nature of the vortex that one's experiences are accentuated and amplified, and this certainly seemed the case. Dancing the site One weekend we ran a series of daily group meditations, as a component of World Environment Day events. At the first meditation with the group Barbara perceived a spirit corroboree being held inside the circle of participants. The old spirit man who I had met before joined with us in our healing meditation and Barbara was aware of a great host of other spirit energies around us. The atmosphere was positively beaming. After our second group meditation my dowsing showed that the vortex had swollen rapidly in size, gaining an extra two rings, and with all the rings much thicker. In the third meditation that evening, with eight people participating, I sensed a wise old Aboriginal woman elder spirit behind me, a bit shyer than her male counterpart, with short white hair. I felt her putting her hand on my shoulder and resting it there for a short time. I felt greatly honoured by her presence. Later, when Barbara was relaying her guidance about connecting to Mother Earth I suddenly felt electrified, my spine and nerves seemingly wired up to some great energy current. Barbara had felt similarly 'switched on' earlier that morning. The activation process seemed to be really moving along. After the final meditation on Sunday my dowsing revealed the vortex to have grown to seven rings - the number which often signifies a sacred site- with its energy reaching to the neighbour's walls. So most of the house was filled with vortex energy. And we were extended our energetic influence to around the town, particularly to the nearby Theatre Royal, where WED events were taking place with much goodwill. Barbara said that our Aboriginal spirit friends were involved too. That night there was a wonderful closing ceremony at the Theatre Royal to cap off a great weekend. Craig Nelson, a Queensland Aboriginal man, treated us to an amazing didgeridoo performance. He told us to relax, close our eyes and let ourselves be taken away by the sounds. And what a sound feast it was! Like an incredible sound massage, reverberating deeply to the core of our being. I became aware that my Aboriginal spirit friends were both standing behind me, their eyes blazing, shining with excitement at the thrill of hearing those vibrant sounds. A couple of months went by. Before it was time for Barbara to travel overseas we decided to do some more group energy work with the vortex. Barbara organised a spiritual workshop, for women to connect with the goddess energies. It was a powerful day of inner work. We all had some revealing, challenging and intense experiences throughout the day, no doubt accelerated by being on the vortex. By that time there were at least a dozen vortex rings counted by pendulum and it reached half way across the street. After the workshop I dowsed that another exponential leap in vortex size and qualities had occurred. It now reached further down the street, each ring greatly strengthened and widened. I could feel each ring as an energy 'wave' in my whole being as I walked down the street. I could count 16 rings, but later distant dowsing suggested there might be up to 28. Barbara's guidance was that the vortex was covering much of the towns CBD and it's vibrations were now more powerful than ever. Thus, it seemed, for a second time we had achieved the raising of the latent potential of a vortex, potentising the site and elevating the consciousness of its denizens. Post Script Barbara, a spiritual healer with over 14 years experience in inner work, is now back at Heart House and is available to help with peoples spiritual healings. She also facilitates meditation groups and workshops for integrating the goddess energies for personal and planetary transformation. For more information you can call her on 03 5470 5040.
© Billy Arnold, June 2002 My lifes work My research is about the practice of yoga samadhi. It is especially the practice of the Other samadhi - a transitional ecstatic (beside ones self) state between the first samadhi with an object of focus and the enstatic (within ones self) second samadhi without an object of focus. Samadhi, a Sanskrit word, is the final eighth stage of yoga. Samadhi means 'putting it together', i.e. putting together the seven stages preceding samadhi, which are 1. Self Restraints. 2. Fixed Observances. 3.Posture. 4.Breath Control. 5.Withdrawl of the Senses. 6.Concentration, and 7. Meditation. If the meditation continues and deepens it becomes Absorption in Trance, which is Samadhi (Patanjali Yoga sutra 2.29). Yoga is inhibiting (then stopping) the processes of the thinking principle (Patanjali Yoga Sutra 1.2). Then, The Seer abides within (Sutra 1.3). Yoga is inner vision. Posture, Breath, Sense Withdrawal and so on are stages leading to focused inner vision. The other samadhi is not the goal of yoga but is a stage of consciousness transited as going towards second samadhi consciousness. The other is the spiritual reality of Mother Nature. Some spirits are instantly recognisable in nature (water spirits, tree spirits, flower spirits), but some of the bigger spirits in Australia are a mystery to me until I check sites and their entities with local aboriginal people. Samadhi is within everyone's reach, you don't have to be a mystic, an advanced yogi or a Saint to realize the other samadhi. Huang Wei-Chu's commentary on Chinese Sutra 4.... "To practice the 'Samadhi of the Specific Mode', is to make it a rule to be straightforward on all occasions in daily life and in meditation, no matter we are walking, standing, sitting, or reclining. Don't let the mind be coloured, while practicing straight-forwardness with the lips only". In other words be honest with others and with yourself. "This Samadhi of the Specific Mode, is not just sitting quietly trying to quieten the mind, nor is it visualising an object or deity, such an idea is a stumbling block to the right Path, as that would mean one does not put in an appearance in the Three Worlds". These Three Worlds by Chinese definition reiterate the Three Worlds of Australian Aborigines, being the dimensions of the unborn, the living, and the dead. "If the interpretation that sitting quietly and continuously is correct, why did Virmalakirty reprimand Sariputta for sitting quietly in the wood? In his commentary on the Chinese Sutra 4.7, Huang Wei-Chu mentions Virmalakirty saying to Sariputta "As to sitting quietly, it means that one does not put in an appearance within the three Worlds of Desire, Matter, and of Non-Matter. It means that while remaining in Nirodha Samapatti (ecstasy with cessation of normal consciousness), one is able to perform the various bodily movements such as walking standing sitting or reclining. It means that without deviating from the norm, one is able to discharge various temporal duties. It means one abides neither within nor without. It means that without exterminating Klesas (defilements), one may enter Samadhi". This is an extremely important statement because it means people don't need to be a Buddha to put in an appearance in the three worlds, and to see the spiritual reality of everything in nature. Discovering the Dreaming I first went to Alice Springs with my daughter in 1997 hoping to meet aboriginal artists who might help me understand some of the things I have been seeing during meditations in nature. I have been compiling material about techniques of sense-withdrawal, combining classical yoga and esoteric astrology, both being about Inner Vision. On arrival in Alice Springs we purchased a book called Central Australian Religion; Personal Monototemism in a Polytotemic Community, (Flinders Press, Flinders University of South Australia), by Professor Ted Strehlow who shows two of his maps illustrating some of the Songlines running through Central Australia. The map below shows songlines of dancing ancestral women, then a dreaming of two carpet snakes Kara and Tala - La.lat.utere.le.laka. It also shows the Rain Dreaming of two rain ancestors, which runs through the Ewaninga claypan on the old south road 25km south of Alice. Between carpet snake and rain dreamings are shown the songlines of Dingo Ancestors, Black Hawk Ancestors and a site of the frost women, all surrounded by honey ant dreaming. Alice Springs lies between the Carpet Snake Dreaming Lalatuterelelaka and the Rain dreaming.
* Lalatuterelelaka, associated with the beautiful silver and blue, very frisky yet profoundly mysterious Carpet Snake Spirit called Tala, according to Strehlow. Tala sleeps in the Hann Range north of Alice with her head east of Arulte Atwatye, her shoulder. She comes up from the earth through a geological fault line, a split in the earth's crust caused by ancient tectonics that raised the Range c 800 million years ago. She flies to sites hundreds of kilometres from here. * A Dreaming of two carpet snakes, (on the right) of two snakemen, brothers, Utnea and Enmalu.and of two non-venomous pythons, Tala and Kara. They sang landscapes, named sites and objects. The two different types of colourful carpet snakes and carpet snakemen still inhabit the same landscapes and still sing carpet snake kara songs. "good meat, good coroboree" says Lindsay Bird who sings Utnea as he paints carpet snake dreaming. * Ewaninga claypan on the Rain Dreaming, in centre.
Within a few months I had meditated many times in town - at corkwood, caterpillar, wild dog, puppies, and rainbow sites and at earth energy sites near the old Telegraph Station 5km north of town and at the Todd River Gap in the Range 3 or 4km south of the CBD. Out of town I practiced at sites at the other Gaps in the MacDonnell Range east and west of town. North and South of town I often practiced focused inner vision in the dry riverbed of the Todd, also at the ilparpa hill and claypan sites, and at Santa Theresa Aboriginal Community south east of Alice. I was absolutely amazed at the variety and intensity of landscape energies, the different groups of spirits and different types of energy fields, how they worked and played together in various landscapes. I saw nature spirits living and working creatively together and saw them combine in an instant to facilitate the manifestation of major local entities, especially at the original Alice Spring, which turns out to be not a spring but a lens to artesian water. Eventually I thought I was ready to practice yoga vision on the rain and snake songlines. At Ewaninga, south of town on the rain dreaming, I saw a host of local flower spirits combine to manifest a mighty two-eyed water spirit which rose up from the depths of the claypan. It gave me a demonstration of its ability in projection of consciousness. Seeing the Dreaming spirits At the carpet snake site north of town at Arulte Atwatye (- the shoulder) I first saw the spirit Tala when she woke, lifted her head and looked at me. I was awed and very impressed. When I had arrived at the site I talked to the spirits, knocking on rocks with knuckles and with a little stone as I went, saying I was sorry to disturb them. I climbed the range and started to practice outer and inner focus eye exercises. I didn't see the spirit at first. I felt it lift its head up from the range, and then with eyes closed I saw the head 40-50 feet above me. The spirit is huge, a couple of kilometres long, silvery, a beautiful blue eyed silver spirit, so peaceful her eyes momentarily puffy like an infant suddenly awoken. We looked at each other for a bit then I continued my meditation. The Spirit looked around, stretched up and looked around the compass points some more then he went back to sleep! The spirit appears bound to the Hann Range though it can fly to other sites and waterholes 300-400km away. Within a few months I met owners and singers of songs on the rain and the carpet snake songlines and had seen remarkable things at the sites. The rain dreaming song man is from the Simpson Desert southeast of Alice and the singer of carpet snake is from Anmatyere language country north of Alice. Without Strehlow's map of songlines, without Lindsay's song and his paintings of the area I would probably have had quite a shock on first seeing Tala. Aboriginal songs about sites and the ancient maps seen in their artwork, when used with modern maps can be really helpful in understanding landscapes and the entities inhabiting them. With them I can immediately recognise spirit of place, when attuning in a light trance. The geological map of the site shown below, which clearly shows a serpentine form in the western Hann Range, and Lindsay's song and paintings helped me the most. The Geological Map sf5309 and the topographical map of the Hann Range show the geological faults in the Range west of the Stuart Highway (shown running north to south east). Map below: top right hand corner shows the oldest rocks in the area, at Aremela. Bottom left is the Hann Range. ![]()
Free downloads of Geological, Magnetic and
Gravity maps of Australia are available at www.ga.gov.au Lindsay Bird Mpetyane was born in Anmatyere country at Bushy Park Station about 1935. The name of the station owner Mr Jim Bird was the source of Lindsay's European surname. His aboriginal name is Artola Art Nanaka Yunga Areteca. As a young man he worked as a cattle drover. Lindsay speaks the eastern Anmatyere language. He lives at Mulga Bore between the Sandover and the Plenty Highways. Lindsay's country Aremela is spiritually dominated by the oldest rocky outcrops in the area and by the Geological Faults associated with the Hann Range. Lindsay has a wealth of dreamings - honey
ant, two different kinds of snakes, a prickle plant, a white
tree, the Perentie lizard, lizard eggs, the bush plum tree and
the plum itself and he paints a grub which lives in the Bush
Plum Tree. Lindsay also paints several dreamings and sings the
songs associated with each painting as he works. He has a snake
story and songs associated with his country which are sung while
working on his paintings. The song is about two snake men
who travelled through Aremela naming sites in the landscape.
They sat down and slept at Arulte Atwatye which means
'back of the shoulder'. The song has several levels of meaning relating
to the men's journey, and the spirit beings inhabiting the sites.
Lindsay says some of the stories are good coroboree for men,
women and children, and some are secret business. Lindsay says
'It is forbidden in the Law' to sing the songs of some Beings,
forbidden even to name them. He sings Kala, 'Good coroboree'
he says, 'good tucker, good meat', but he won't sing the other
one named in Strehlows map. Lindsay doesn't own all the songlines in his country, some songs belong to other people. But he is the custodian responsible for the upkeep and the performance of ceremony at open carpet snake sites. Songlines are hundreds, sometimes thousands of kilometres long. Each section of a songline is owned by a different person and only rarely will a group of singers come together to join up the songs. Lindsay's snake story covers a lot of ground starting from Harpers Spring west to Ti Tree, south to Aileron, southeast to Bushy Park, and Aremula. The songline is connected to sites at Wood Green, Woola Downs and Adelaide Bore. Lindsay's part of the snake song ends at Alcoota Creek. Below is Lindsay painting in town just after I first recorded his snake song. He is painting snake and spear dreaming, that's the carpet snake Utnea at his right knee. The central yellow stripes represent the yellow flowered mulga Acacia Aneura from which spears are made, the red stripes represent the red-berried mistletoe specific to Acacia.aneura in Lindsay's country Aremela.

Other peoples impressions I told Alanna and Rhonda how I had tried to return to the sites east and west of the highway and how I planned to practice yoga vision in female company on Hann Range and had been thwarted by tragic events involving English tourists near Barrow Creek, which closed the Stuart Highway for days. When Alanna and Rhonda arrived in town we set off for the carpet snake dreaming sites. We boiled a billy for lunch and admired flora, fauna and geology before we ascended the Range. I had told the girls how I had practiced yoga meditation on the Range west of the Stuart Highway and had seen the peaceful serpentine spirit who sleeps there and how I had then walked out east of the highway and been unsettled by another imposing energy site and its entity. Off we went to sense in our own ways the Dreaming of the carpet snake Tala. As we ascended the range we stopped to tune in and instantly I saw the huge silver form and blue eye of the serpent spirit right beside me,. It looked into my eye and winked 'ok', so off I went up the south face of the range till I sensed a hesitation from the girls and on turning I saw them both frozen in a attitude of extreme alert awareness. I called 'come on' to them; but they were both asking permission to be there. I said, "It's ok, the spirit said its ok, she is here beside me and she said, 'take them up!' ". The girls seemed inwardly busy. Alanna was doing her thing meditavely scanning, dowsing with pendulum and her hands. Rhonda said "I know the spirit is here, I saw it right next to you." She had felt hot energy burning into her feet, jolts of energy up through each foot. I wondered what Alanna's crystal pendulum had been doing. They both smiled, knowing our presence was acceptable to the spirit, so off we went to the top of the low range. We admired the local holly Grevillia, and several purple flowering highly perfumed shrubs amongst thriving native cypress pines, white eremophlia, grasses, and lichen on the glazed metamorphic rock associated with the fault. We descended the Range intoxicated by the
perfumes of the pale blue, the dark blue, the lilac and lavender
flowers, then headed off to explore the fringe of the Eastern
Hann Range a ittle bit south of Amela, where lie the oldest rocks
in the area. This was the area that scared me when I went there
alone, yet with female company we were blessed and in rapt awe
of the landscape. The sites associated with Tala and Kara are male and female sites and as such they demand specific respect from each gender. Hence a temporary touch of gender fear seems to have been demonstrated by me in the east range, and by the girls in the west range. Simply a fear of the unknown I suppose, as we were all lifted and refreshed by the experience. Rhonda was excited and obviously enraptured by our encounter with Tala. Next morning when Alanna and I arrived to have breakfast with her we were greeted by a very excited Rhonda who told us Tala had been for an early morning visit to her hotel in downtown Alice Springs. Below is a drawing of Tala's eye as seen at the Hann Range site and in Alice springs by Rhonda between the 6th and 9th of September 2000. The head and eye are what I also see when Tala is close by, and is what other women have seen when encountering Tala on site and in Alice. ![]()
© Billy Arnold, June 2002 On 30th September 2001 Alanna Moore presented a dowsing and geomancy workshop near Melbourne that included the building of a Tower of Power. The workshop went fine, except for a disturbing event that happened Amongst the group was the son of a participant who turned out to be a very naughty little boy who caused quite a bit of havoc. The workshop hosts felt uncomfortable with their Tower for several days after the workshop. It was decided that, as their discomfort started on the workshop day, it was probably coming from the Tower, so the Tower had to come down (to be re-erected somewhere else later.) Alanna felt that their distress at the turn of events of 30/9/01 had unfortunately been subconsciously channelled into the Tower energy field. And, on checking with astrologer Billy Arnold, he was able to provide further interesting insights into the influence of the discordant energies of the day, which he found to have continued into that evening and the following few days. Following is Billy's report on the astrological
situation. It can be concluded that not only is there a right
place for a Tower of Power, but also the energy of the moment
when the Tower goes up can be critical too ( - although Towers
can be re-programmed mentally at a more auspicious time). The grand cross that ran riot over several days in 2001 began its extreme intensity at 10am Oct 30th (the beginning of the workshop) and it bought unpleasant experiences to several of the people. See the chart for 30th September 2001 below left for 11am, and below right for 11pm, when the grand cross was still continuing. These kinds of energy are reflected both in people and in the 'earth force' of the times. Two pairs of opposing planets form a grand cross aspect, intensifying the definition of the four 'squares' involved. This often proves a make or break pattern involving either great strength of character or a sometimes false feeling that fate has conspired to bring frustration and difficulty.

I'd say the workshop was ok even with major distractions, but when a Tower of Power is involved . If you asked what this astrologer thought about all this you would hear 'thank heavens for the stars and their energies, and thank heavens for the planets which condition stellar energy and thank heaven for knowledge of the sequence of parallels of declination between the planets which focus cosmic forces which condition and sustain the earth and all who sail in her.' Using a sun centred map of the solar system and a traditional earth centred map (a horoscope), helps in understanding force fields in the solar system which influence the earth, which in turn condition and colour fields of landscape in topographical, geological, and biological manifestations of genetic- organic matter through the very nature of the fabric of the earth force. Such natural forces are super real and are in reach of sensory perception by techniques of concentrated awareness like dowsing, yoga-meditation, clairvoyant/audient and more painful techniques employed by primitive races which are still enthusiastically re-enacted in aboriginal cultures. © Alanna Moore June 2002 New Zealand is abundant with mysterious anomalies,
pointing to pre-Maori goings on. I visited one such site with fellow researcher Billy Arnold last March when we travelled to NZ to run some workshops. Jungle mystery The hire car navigated yet another narrow bend as the last rays of sunlight shone through the forest, illuminating the tree trunks. There it was! Just a few metres from the track a very obvious line of neatly jointed boulders on the side of a hill, with trees and a metre thick humus layer growing on top. Upon inspection of the strata Billy and I both felt that it was a natural formation of volcanic stone. Researchers have deemed the stone to be an ignimbrite not found elsewhere until some 12km away. Ignimbrite is defined as "rock composed of volcanic fragments welded together, of 66% silica and generally acidic" A sample analysed in Auckland pronounced The Wall to be formed of rhyolite "a fine grained or glassy light coloured volcanic rock containing mineral potash feldspar with over 66% silica, also acidic". Energies of Place In meditation, tuning in to that spot I sensed that below the surface there was a great deal of devic activity occurring and this was also Billy's impression. When he tuned in near the gap Billy clairvoyantly saw a kind of doorway there (for the movement of spirits) and also a "big mob of spirits in the hill". So the Wall appeared to be functioning as a portal to other dimensions. The whole spot felt quite special, sacred perhaps. But to who? Perhaps simply a nature spirit temple, as Marko Pogacnik refers to such hot spots of devic activity. Often such spots are characterised by special markings or features, says Pogacnik. So this one could be a classic. I also got the idea, as I meditated around the site, that the sort of attention the spot had been eliciting may well be attracting the sorts of devas and landscape energies which make a site especially sacred. That is, by wanting a site to be a site, it can become one. And so if enough people go there and meditate and attune to the energies of place, then it could become a centre of power as well as mystery. What Others Say In a major article on the subject from The
Listener, May 4th 1996, Barry Brailsford, a maverick NZ archeologist
who believes The Wall to be man-made by a pre-Maori culture,
The advocates of the temple or pyramid scenario say the wall is oriented to true north. But it turns out to be 5 degrees off true Nature also orientates rocks. For instance - all the quartz veins where I live run north-south, I'm told. A half round stone lying in front of The Wall is described by Brailsford as a 'touchstone' - that is: a greeting stone placed before an ancient stone structure. Rex Gilroy, Australian archeological anomalist, goes further believing that this stone is from the top of an ancient pyramid structure and that it was covered with ancient writings which he has translated as describing the site as a temple to the sun. This I find very hard to believe! And my dowsing revealed nothing special about the 'touchstone'. An archeological study has yet to be done of The Wall. The Maori know nothing of it and, indeed, talk of pre-Maori cultures existing in this country is most unsettling for them politically. Whatever The Wall is, it has certainly aroused curiosity and controversy. The subject makes for a good read on Martin Doutre's website, where even the Sceptics get their two-bob's worth in. Perhaps readers would like to try dowsing or tuning into the photo and passing on any insights to Geomantica? New Zealand Geology, Patricia Riddolls,1987. www.pyramids.co.nz (Martin Doutre's website)
'Water and Mineral Divining' by Andy Lehmann. Review by Alanna Moore It was a treat to meet the author of this booklet in May 2002. Andy is full of stories of his dowsing/water divining prowess which started to develop at an early age in rural Queensland. In the beginning of this booklet Andy says that he has "been divining for over seventy years and during that time I have conducted countless experiments." What was also testament to his dedication to dowsing was his determination to publish his story in his own way, at the prompting of friends. Confronted by a an old 'bushie' in his eighties at the local computer store Andy was told that he was "too old" to purchase a computer. Persistence paid off and he was eventually sold the computer on the proviso that he didn't pester them too much about how to use it. Andy went home, learnt how to do word processing and produced the said booklet of some 20 A4 pages, to his great satisfaction. Lots of dowsing practise and observation of the natural environment has honed Andys skills, of which he is justifiably proud. To quote the booklet: "The colour of the soil is a good indicator of the quality of the water. Red soil is mostly good water and grey soil not so good. The species of trees growing on an area are also good indicators for the quality of water. Big bloodwood trees, Blue Gum and Moreton Bay Ash are all good, while Spotted Gum and Messmate are indicators of salt water. The variety of rock in an area is also a good indicator for finding underground water" "Tall straight trees are not a good sign of underground water. The diviner should be on the lookout for trees that are bowed together with a line of trees standing straight in the centre between them. This formation is caused by the force that works the divining rod on them, since they were seedlings. This is a big help when divining large properties. I sit in the motor vehicle and watch the timber. As soon as I see the right formation of trees I stop the vehicle and assess the stream of water. This saves a lot of walking" "Meat ants are good water diviners. They always build their nests over streams of underground water, never on an underground basin of still water. They often build long nests along a stream, and conical nests on cross streams. I believe they use underground streams for navigation as I have noticed that their tracks follow underground streams." One of the methods that Andy has developed on his own is the 'Rates Method', as first written about by English author T.C. Lethbridge. Andy independently discovered the method, which involves using a particular length of string when searching for a particular substance. His old pendulum boasts a long string punctuated by knots. Each knot is the spot to hold the pendulum to find different things water, gold etc. He counts the number of rotations produced when dowsing to also indicate things. For example, he says that for water and quartz the length of the string is the same, although the number of rotations is different. In November 1992 he participated in a Sceptics Society Dowsing 'Challenge'. Andy was able to mark out the locations of buried irrigation pipes and underground streams most proficiently. He wasn't able to divine anything about the taste of the water, as required, "Otherwise my assessment was spot on. I asked the man running the competition how he thought I fared. He said "You were the only one in it, no one even found the pipeline." I said "Do you think I will get the $20,000 prize from the Sceptics Society?" "No" he said "You won't get that." He said "even though you got the tests 100% correct you won't satisfy the Sceptic Society that you can divine water. They are going to keep their $20,000. We have had others that have performed equally as well as you have done. But the Sceptics were not convinced that they produced their results by divining skills." Andy notes laconically that "Diviners come in for a lot of criticism from scientists and government bodies such as the government water resources, but lately their attitudes seem to have softened. I have even been asked to divine water for government bodies. When I expressed surprise at them not using DPI water resources people they said 'we tried them and they can't find water.' When I divined for a scientist I said 'What are you going to tell your geology students if we find water?' He said 'I will keep off the subject.' Obviously there must be something in it that defies logic. Lately even the water resources people have been advising their clients to get me to divine when they can't find water or the area is too hard." Andy has found that standard conductivity tests of water are not always accurate. "Drillers do conductivity tests. This is a measure of the amount of electricity that will flow through the water, the saltier the water, the more electricity that will pass through it. It gives a readout in parts per million. But other impurities besides salt affect conductivity, notably iron and sulphur. One case that comes to mind was a fruit grower who had a bore drilled which gave a conductivity reading of 4000ppm. When he had it analysed, it had only 600ppm sodium, sodium being 40% of salt, so the water did not affect his avocadoes adversely, and avos are very salt sensitive" With discussion of his methods for divining
water and gold and the sexing of eggs, this booklet is a treat
and a good yarn. You can get your own copy by sending $10 plus

What the reviewers have said: "Thanks goodness someone is continuing research and promoting interest in the fascinating practice of dowsing...This video, made by Alanna Moore, is really great. You get to see seven of Australia's respected dowsers, including Keith Levy, Sandy Griffin, Ross Henderson, Bill Raines and Dave Kennett. As you will see, dowsing is not just confined to finding water. It is being used to determine soil mineral/pH balances; to find precious ores and stones; to detect and remedy "Earth radiation" and geopathic stress; to select locations for planting; and even to locate graves! If you are interested in dowsing, then may I strongly suggest you get hold of this video; it is very informative." Duncan Roads, Nexus magazine June/July 2002. "This video will be excellant to help
beginners learn from top teachers and also interesting for those
who would like to see other peoples' methods and successes...
It is also a wonderful social history document..." To get your copy: $45 posted in Australia
